Found second gear by accident
Dealer agreed to take back this tach. The new tach is on the way. As I understand it, this would work for an older VL800. Its strange, that when I searched this part number, this thread was about the only useful thing that came up. If anyone ever has an offer to buy this tach again at a steep discount, take a pass. When I had it hooked up, the bike ran like crap. I had a backfire on startup that sounded like a shotgun blast.

I managed to sort out my tachometer problems and maybe this will help someone else out there having problems so here goes. I bought the genuine suzuki accessory tachometer that bolts to the handlebar risers clamping down the bar. The installation instructions supplies you with a patch harness that you must join both coils up with to make them go into waste spark mode ( Fire the coil on the exhaust stroke as well as compression stroke). As soon as I bridged my tachometer it worked perfectly. Accurate and smooth. I recommend connecting both coil negatives together to give you double the signal, I also err on the side of warning though. The ignition modules are designed to fire one ignition coil at a time so bridging them this was may have a detrimental effect on the ignition control modules life expectancy as it must hand twice the current it used to. Apart from that I see no adverse conditions by implementing this method. The coil negative wire is on the left coil is the white wire with orange stripe and the coil negative wire on the right coil is the black wire with orange stripe on the 2008 c50 boulevard. I hope this helps anyone with the same drama's.
