    C90 Annoyances

Wondered if any other Boulevard owners have the same annoyances I do:
    (1) Hard starting - even when it is not cold (60-70 degrees F). I have to use my "cruise control" to open the throttle a little ways to keep it going for a minute until warm. (Dang - I miss that choke!)
    (2) Gas cap cover rattles. Not the gas cap but the chrome, hinged, locked cover. Looks like it needs a thicker rubber gasket for a tight fit.

Is it just me or are these afflictions of the whole species?

I've never heard of any of those issues being a problem on a C90.
I'm sure a few who own a C90 will chime in soon enough.

Don't know the year of your bike, but if it's still under warranty the gas cap problem should be something they can fix under warranty if you can show them the rattle. It's hard to believe that little cover can be heard over the sound of the motorcycle --must be some kinda rattle.

If the bikes not under warranty, maybe it's time for some new pipes.
A louder exhaust will take care of that annoying rattle.

I have a 05’ C90 and have never had any kink of problem with starting. Mine fires first time every time. It does seem to idle on the high side for about a minute then settles down to standard idle. As for the gas lid are you missing the rubber bumpers where the lid seats?

    Hi Rollo and welcome!
I have owned a 2005 C90 for about 2 months now, and have never had any of those problems. I hope your experiences otherwise have been/are enjoyable, and that you get the kinks worked out. I love my bike!

C90 starts like a charm if you just keep your mitts off the throttle. If you give the C90 throttle when starting, it can be very hard starting, fail to start or backfire. Anyway, I don't have a problem just pushing the starter, having the engine start at high-idle, then back down to about 1000 rpm after 20 seconds or so. The fuel mix and throttle are all managed by the ECM during start, so if you're having problems, you might check if its throwing a code.

The easiest fix for most problems with C90s is resolved by cleaning the battery terminal connections and keeping the electrical system in top condition.

What year is it? Has the bike been sitting up? Was it winterized properly? Has proper maintainance been done on the bike such a plugs if it is due?

My tends to be a little hard starting, I think I need to adjust the throttle cables as I have to give it a little throttle to get it started. Never had to do that before until recently.

The gas cap lid does rattle, I fixed it by replacing the weatherstripping with some rubberized weatherstripping that I got from the hardware store.

Didn't specify what year it was and how old the battery was either. Replace the battery with a G-Batt and use some of the foam cushioning on the inside of the door where it lips together. That will stop the rattle and then enjoy the ride.

You might need to adjust your idle speed, but also check your air filters- might be time for a change.

Could be the decomp cable needs adjusted too. At least I think the C90 still has that annoying little thing. Of course I have had the carbs rebuilt by G-Man and the bike has about every dern G-Man accessory on it except the exhaust,,lol!!!

But good point DrBob. How you been doing? Been a while. One of these days we need to meet up for a beer.

Only problem on my 2005 C90T starting is it gets stuck on a compression stroke and won't turn over. has done it since new and even now with a new battery. i have to put it in 3rd or 4th gear and roll it off of the stroke. Then it turn over easy.
