On average a car engine last from 125K upto 150K
I have Suzuki S50, how long would that last (mechanically)?
thanks

Money come and go, Friends stay forever.
You know that,.......how ??
Cars built in the last 20 years or so can last a lot longer than that........or a lot less if not taken care of properly.
It depends on care and what you consider to be a "worn out" point.
Not many riders keep one bike until it is worn out.
My guess: (the best you will get is wild guesses) 75-80,000 before it starts burning excess oil or bearings start rattling.
A small bike engine, on average, turns twice as many revolutions per mile than a car.
Just ride the darned thing. It will last a good long time, provided you take care of it. When it starts to go...there will be signs. Crap will break off, leak, etc..
Is that the same as an Intruder 800? I think Dr. Bob has some good things to say about that bike...
2k8 SE, 2k5 Red Parts, Mustang Vintage Wide Seat, Suzuki OEM Sissy Bar (Seasonal), Willie and Max Saddlebags (Seasonal), Suzuki OEM Passenger Floorboards, 28" Drag Bars, Ken's 1" Spacers, Ken's Chin Spoiler, Jardine 2 into 1 Exhaust, PC-V retrofit, Autotune, De-Paired, Custom Headlight, Blacking out the Chrome, Looking for better brakes!
Yes, Dr. Bob put 135,000 miles on one without any problems. Take good care of her! I really like my S50 and am using synthetic oil and K&N filters and trying to store her properly over the winter. I would like to pass her on to a grandson or granddaughter some day. My sons are 30 and 26 and no kids yet, so that might not work out. LOL Here's Bobs site. Bob's VS-800 Intruder Page
if u get 25k then you got more then your moneys worth, sad thing in this country their value is in the sink, cuz it isn't a harley. yet they can last longer and cost less ( I rode/ ride with harley, there always in the shop for something , even if there babied)
personally, my mother has 18000 on her 02 valusia 800. it sat 3 years, we've never had to do anything but flush the anti freeze once, change oil and plugs. that's why I got my m50, how can you argue with that kind of reliability?

Hogwash! (Pardon pun),it all depends on the rider, and how the bike is treated and maintained and also what mods and who done 'em.
I've put over 100K on several Harleys and they've been reliable as all get out.
My current bike is 12 years old and nearing 170,000 miles, never even once has it made me walk.
I doubt you'll ever see an M with that many miles on it

From a car engine perspective - my old VW Golf (1.9 liter TDI) had 260000 km (160 K miles) on it when my wife traded it in a couple of years ago. The engine and transmission were still rock solid - the car was traded in because it was 9 years old and had been banged up when my wife "kissed" the wall leaving the garage.
Most vehicles will be "discarded" before they are mechanically at "end of life" - it's usually something else (body damage or rust, new smog or noise controls, new safety standards, etc.) that sends a vehicle to the scrapyard. After riding a bike for a number of years, you'll probably have the "itch" to try something different ...
I'd believe it, that's not cheap, and diesel's are pretty rugged. Toyota's old diesel pickups were crazy rugged, they wouldn't die. There's a few 90's Toyota 4Runners and pickups around my city with just under 600,000km. The 4 bangers in those things were ridiculous tough.

I had a 1995 Jeep Cherokee Laredo with the 5.2L engine. That jeep had 275000 miles and still going strong until the a/c clutch burned out. It cost more to replace the a/c compressor than what the Jeep was worth. Donated the Jeep this year as I purchased a new Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo the previous year. I have ridden with folks riding Suzuki Intruder that has 150K + miles on their bike without any problems. Change oil regularly, ride the bike without abusing it....should last you for a long time.
At Motorcycle training school, one of the instructors was riding a seventies vintage BMW with over 300 000 kilometers on it - she's a snowbird who rides from Canada to Mexico and back every year.
Well that's about 186,411 miles,I'm not far from there with 167,000 on my 2000 Electra.
Then there's Dave Zien's '91 Harley FXRT,over 1,000,000 one owner miles!

Very cool story. But just to be clear, i read from an article that the motor has been overhauled 9 times. Makes sense.
