Clutch problem on a V Star

I bought my first bike today, a 2005 Yamaha V Star 650 silverado. The 15 mile ride home went great, but now the bike dies when I shift into gear despite having the clutch pulled in. Any ideas on why and what I need to do to get riding again?

Ok, I feel like an idiot. The kickstand was down, just went out and tried it with the kickstand up and it worked fine. Thank you.

This is a "welcome to the club" moment.

The next time that happens, check the KILL SWITCH too.

    And welcome to the forum.

Which problem exactly........besides the problem of not being able to navigate a forum properly and put your question in the right place ???

My Suzuki makes a nasty sound sometimes when stopping the engine. I think it is because the engine turns backwards a few degrees on the final stroke.......and that there is nothing you can do to "fix" it. IIRC, my Honda does it too.

Next time please do take a minute and start your own thread........instead of jumping in on one that has nothing to do with your problem......please ??

I have a 2005 Yamaha Vstar 650. I pulled it out for the first time this year and had no issues starting the bike but when I try to get it into first gear, it stalls. The kickstand is up. I am not sure what to do and wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions.

    Thank you

Does it cut off, or does it sort of lurch a little and stall? If it is the first, clean the sidestand switch and check for proper operation and sticking. If it is the later, the clutch plates are probably stuck together. With the engine off put the bike in about 3d gear, pull in the clutch, and rock the bike back and forth until you hear/ feel the clutch plates come unstuck. If that does not work, take the clutch cover off, take off the clutch springs, and separate them manually- you may need to replace the cover gasket.

I also have the same issue however my kick stand was up and wasn't sticking? Would this be the clutch springs or plates? Was hard to get back in any other gear until the bike was off? Any ideas?

Most likely it is a bad sidestand switch or an improperly adjusted clutch.
If it's hydraulic, it might need to be bled.

P.S. This is an OLD thread. Unlikely you will get an answer from him.
Don't believe everything that you think.
