New Roadliner Suspension Question
Hi,
I just purchased an 09 left over Roadliner S with just a sissy bar and engine guards. I traded in an 08 Vulcan 900 which was another great bike. When I was driving the Roadliner home I hit a bump and the bike jolted me out of the seat - I was a little suprised by this. On smooth road the bike felt great. I get the bike home and adjusted the shock underneath the bike about a 1/4" for a softer ride. I didn't have a factory wrench so it was a pain in the butt to even get that much. Since that first day I put about 50 miles on the bike. It definetely has smoothed out a bit. Today I went to lunch with the wife and she said that the bike jolted her on the back when we hit a few bumps in the road and that she never felt that on our Vulcan (the Vulcan was bought used with 8k) . I'm wondering if this is normal and after a few thousand miles the suspension will settle in nicely. My other thoughts is that the shock under the bike is adjusted to tight from the factory and needs to be adjusted for a softer ride -there is a good 2" of adjustment left. The other thought I had, is that the Roadliner is a heavy bike and what we're expriencing is normal and the only way to make it better is to replace the shock with an air shock or something. Not sure
Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance

I guess I'l answer my own question. I just got off the phone with yamaha and was told that it's normal for the suspension to be stiff at first and that it will settle in. He also suggested backing off some of the tension on the spring that is over the shock, under the bike. I'm going to try the softest setting to see what happens. I went out this weekend with the wife and just asked her how the ride was and she started to compare this bike with my Vulcan and how she was jarred when we went over a few bumps. I'm sure it will smooth out. I'd still be intrested in knowing if this is normal for other Roadliner owners.
