    Sportster Footpegs Surprise!!!

    Has anyone noticed this yet?

On my 07 Sportster I changed out the footpegs to a custom peg (both front and passenger), when I removed the stock pegs the factory had installed a spacer made from an old rusted cut-up piece of metal in order to make the pegs movement tight. This looked like somthing I would do but was shocked that Harley did it. No big deal but I thought it was kind of cheap of them to do this with all chrome around it.

My new pegs need a thicker spacer anyway because they seem to be worse for clearance then the stock ones, the passenger pegs will not stay up so I will use my own type of spacers to fix this.

    Anyone else have this issue?

You sure it was the factory and not the store that assembled the bike?

Thats a good question, I didnt think about that but why would they do that unless the factory made the tolerance incorrectly. these things look like they came out of a mold so my guess is they all are like this. My aftermarket pegs were worse, the gap was even bigger. Today I made a simple fix, I took a standard washer and popped the center of it with a hammer and bolt that was larger then the center hole. Fixed the problem nicely, now the pegs fit nice and tight and when you stow the back pegs they stay put.

As I said before, you would not really notice this issue unless you replaced them with an aftermarket peg and only the back passenger pegs would be a problem with fit as they need a snug fit to stow them in the up position.

Thats a piece of spring steel, keeps the pegs from rattling and keeps them tight so the stay where you put them. They are supposed to be there.

Hi Higgy, yep I can see that now but when I changed to the new pegs this spacer/spring steel peice was not usable anymore. I guess the aftermarket pegs were a different tolerance then the stock ones. But that's ok, like I said in my post above, I fixed them and all is ok now. Thanks for the input.
