Question about a Sportster
Hi all. I curently ride a 2002 Honda Shadow Ace Deluxe 750. I have a possible opportunity to trade it for a 1997 Sportster 1200. I don't like th idea of trading for an older bike, but he only has 12000 miles on it and he has done some work.
The question I have is, can this sportster support 2-up riding? I ride my bike to and from work daily in traffic and open roads, so I need a bike that can do from 25 to aound 65-70 comfortably. My wife likes to ride with me on the weekends. We don't do much long haul riding, but we still like to ride and she gets uncomfortable after awhile on the ACE I have. Any opinions on this trade? Would I be better to hold onto my bike til I could get a larger framed Harley than a Sportster?
I'm looking for any info you guys and gals can provide.
Thanks in advance.

A Sporty is just as capable of two up as your ACE, and the extra torque would be enjoyable for you, but they are not comfortable bikes, so the comfort for your wife will be down. Keep the ACE for now, and trade up to a big Harley when you can afford to. A Dyna Super Glide is only about 2 grand more than a Sportster 1200, and is an infinitely better bike.

I recently test rode an 09 Sportster 1200 Custom and a couple of 09 Dynas. I don't think the Sportsters are meant to be for 2-up riding. Depending on how big you guys are even the Dynas might be uncomfortable. Here I'm refering to the frame size not the engine power.
I actually liked the 1200 Custom but the Street Bob has a permanent spot in my heart. Wouldn't mind having a Super Glide, either.

Hi guys. My wife and i went and test rode the bike yesterday. I kept your advice in the back of my mind. I rode it by myself first and then with my wife. We both like the extra power and my wife liked the fact that the passenger pegs were lower on the Sporty, but we both decided to keep the ACE. I really like the larger frame and so does she.
Thanks for your input and ride safe.

Before I had my Ultra I had a Sportster road two up all the time with the wife no problems. It is help for for passenger if you get a sissybar with pad.
