I guess with the death of buell harley needed to keep some sport bike version going. This looks like it could be a fun bike. I just dont care for the headlight.

Its just barely in the low end sportbike category, far inferior to Buell in terms of handling, power, weight, etc. I read one review in comparison to other competitive models, it was the least preferred in all performance categories (turning was called "narcoleptic" by one reviewer) but the bike wasn't actively disliked. I think the MoCo cruiser comfort engineering did redeem it to some extent- but its no substitute for a performance bike.

I don't care for the lines at all. In my opinion they were trying to please too many genre's at one time when they came up with this one.
To me, it appears to be a cross between a few different bike styles.
Plus I hate when they put the "sticker" on the tank. It just looks cheap to me.
I like the look. Performance? If I cared that much it might stop me, but it's got more power than the M. Then I saw the tank bag, and IMHO it's FUGLY.![]()

I'd still rather have this:

It's much more attractive to me, but that's me.

The HD xr1200 is indeed a fun bike to ride, being a powerful standard that is quite unlike anything else in the HD line. The "R" is new, but it only has minor changes (and adjustable forks) from the XR1200 that has been sold for a couple years now. I tried one at a local dealership, and really liked it, and seriously considered one as a replacement for the SV650 I sold. Lots of torque, a comfortable seating position, a cool exhaust rumble, and lots & lots of lean angle. A sport bike? No. A standard that is a total blast to ride? Yes.
It looks different, mixtures of bikes, nice look, nice get up.... OK... OK

It would appear that Harley is carefully edging it's way into all the nooks and crannies w/out going to far from the base of loyal customers that it currently serves.
positioning of the product, all the difference in the world.
Harley Davidson's sportiest bike is about to get more sportier for the 2011 model year. I personally feel its styling is directly inspired by the Harley’s famous iconic XR750. Has ability to fine-tune suspension adjustments and resolve handling issues occurred in previous version.
The XR 750 history lesson; the XR 750 started being produced in 1970 replacing the outdated KR750, it is and always will be a race engine, sold in a crate, it has never been put in street production frame (race only), other than Flat Track racing it's only other notoriety is for being Evel Knievel's engine of choice.
