V65 Magna carb install issues
Hello all I am new here and was hoping to find some help with the V65 Magna I am currently working on. I pulled the carbs and cleaned them and I now need to reinstall the carbs on the bike and I am having a hard time getting the carbs into the boots.I have heated the boots and soaked them with crc and I can only get the front cylinders on. Anyone here have any insight on how to make this task a little easier?

Good luck with that, I had a V45 Magna a few years ago, and took the carbs apart, my biggest pain was trying to get them to reseat. The plastic tubes that run between the carbs and into the case above, broke a couple of times. Those damn things were expensive and a major pain. I finally had to take the case out and put it back together first, then install it as one piece.
Probably should have done that to begin with, lesson learned.

took two people
i found a thread on that it said to loosen both holders on the side your putting in first use a little grease inside the rubber(all four) and slide one side in first, but we ended up using a light to warm up the rubbers first and it worked great made them plyable. but im no mechanic so this is just how i did it.

Good on you for posting a posible solution, but if this guy is still waiting for help, he's got patience like no other.

This guy may have moved on, but another biker with greasy hands may stumble on just the solution he needs when he needs it, today or in a year. Thus the beauty of search, and huge archives of forum info.
I have a V65 in the garage, and have had one on and off for 25 years. I read this post because I have never had any mastery on carb work, and these 4-carb setups are difficult to say the least, was hoping I might glean some good info on the carbs.
No reason not to continue if you have good info to add, no matter how old the post.

I've done many V4 carbs
The trick is not to separate them and keep them together. Removing float bowls and jets and needles is readily accessable. If the float bowl gaskets are flattened and no longer round, replace with new ones or they'll leak on you.
The trick to installing these is really pretty simple. Affix boots to all intakes on the heads and seat the rear bank 1st. Lubricating the boots helps with this process. Use a tie down strap and place it around the forward portion of the carb assembly right below the air box housing and hook both ends of the strap to the frame back where the seat is. Cinch down the strap and compress the carbs into the rear boots as far back as possible and this will enable you to seat the front carbs into the boots. I've used a 4X4 post with rubber mallet to seat these firmly into the boots by placing this on top of the metal air box housing and striking, snaps right in.
Makes it so much easier as I've done it the hard way more than once.

cool, I'll remember that when I get to working on my own magna.

So solly to have to bump this. You really do have to remove all of the carbs as a unit. Trying to take out the box first and then the carbs starts a lot of pain. Take off the thermostat thing first and/or move it to the side. I squirt some WDfourtry into the rubber and wiggle out all of the little rubber tubes first. Then the box and carbs will come out on the LEFT side. You have to get to the screw that is in front of the carb box that holds some sort of a heat shield between the carb box and the radiator. Send it to the promised land. You may never get it back in unless you want to take the radiator off along the way. Warm up the 4 little rubber couplers before putting on the rear ones first, then the crab unit hen the front rubbers, then push the set down into them. If you are religeous do something appropriate - it helps avoid the cussing.

Well you really didn't HAVE to.
The thread hadn't been touched in over TWO YEARS.
An introduction would have been a more appropriate first post.

V65 carb removal
I felt the need. I came accross 3 Magnas that had been sitting for years. I bought 'em fairly cheap. All needed carb set overhaul. I own a 1983 I bought new. Now I have 4! I once had to do the carbs on mine but it was so long ago (like 15 years) I forgot how. I searched the web for an hour for a "how to" and found nothing. So I started the wrong, but obvious way and had to learn AGAIN the hard way how to do it. So when I was frustrated I came back to the computator machine and tripped over this old post. A little light went off in my head and I remembered...
Out of consideration for my fellow V4 Magna owners I decided to bump.
Why be so protective?
I'll bet this bump may/will do somebody good!
