    I am a fool

I have purchased a pit upon which I may deposit any extra money I have, to never be seen again.

I bought an old bike to play with on the side, and of course I had to choose one that contained a few parts made of unobtainium as well.

1984 Honda VF1000F, I am told it was rather fast in its day, and of course still no joke by todays standards ( <11 second quarter mile).

Certainly is a contrast from my M50 though, this thing goes like stink and it still has carburetor problems, so it has more locked up inside. Certainly also has a large number of issues, so I will be spending much time cruising ebay.

And here is one that hasn't been neglected etc:

You might try joining a specific club for this bike in order to find parts and hints to improve performance. I know there is an old Kawasaki from the late seventies I think that still has a following and has an online club.

VFR World is the website, just sharing with you guys, seems most guys post on here when they get a second bike.

The thing above the M is a ugly-motha-f***ing wolf head with some antlers that my wife refuses to throw away, because her mother gave it to her.

What's the bigger rust bucket? Your new purchase or that sad lookin thing sitting next to it?

One thing's for sure...your new "fixer upper" looks like it's in better condition then that rust bucket of a car sitting next to it. Is it a VW (noticed the VW sign on the wall) or is that just because you're a fan because of your Audi sittin in the driveway?

I "inherited" a 1972 Kawasaki trail bike last year that I really wanted to fix up. After looking at what the parts are going to cost me I just gave up the idea. Good luck on your new project.

    Project bikes. Good fun.
Honda's are good items should they be taken care of.
Do you know a real good Honda mechanic?
I would get real close to the best one you can find and he will know what to do.
Fast yes but also can get you a ticket faster then stink.

The Jetta is an '85 with 350,000km's on it. Gets 37mpg, drives wonderfully and costs pennies a year to maintain. That car is in much better shape than this bike, regardless of how much surface rust it has accumulated in 25 years on salty/gravel ridden roads. It also needs to be washed. But that is all irrelevant because I did not post this to discuss any of my cars; so I removed the pictures with the old beast in them to reduce discussion.

The Honda is a bit of a monster that may for sure attract a few tickets. Not sure what I will do with it yet, I doubt it will get a full restoration as that would simply be too expensive. I bought it more as something to play with and use when the roads are %%%%ty, to avoid sliding the M on its side in the gravel. We'll see if that actually is the case, I might find myself riding it more than I originally planned....

    here you go

trapster.com - Speed Trap Sharing System

just found it the other week - it is not perfect, but a pretty good guide to go by.

and as for the bike, it was a good machine in it's day and the engine was pretty solid from what little I have heard.
