Most oil bottles have a scale on the side with markings that will get you close. Or you can find some handy measuring devices in housewares dept at your local store.

AND.....if it says to put in 2,8 qts, I'd start at 2.5.......'cause many of my recent bikes didn't take quite what the book said.

You can also find a handy measuring device in your wife's cabinet. but doing that may be hazardous to your health.

If your getting the oil amount from a manual or something I would recommend using it more as a guide and not a hard number. As you get close to it make sure you keep checking the oil window to see where your level is (with the bike level, not on the stand). The amount of oil your engine will hold is always going to be a little different than the next guy, so don't worry too much about making sure you have exactly .8 quarts.
