honda hawk misfires until certain rpm
i recently bought a 1979 honda hawk (twin cylinder) it starts rite up but the right cylinder doesnt fire right until anywhere from 4000 to 5000 rpms but if i put the choke on then it fires alright but both cylinders pop. i cleaned the carbs lastnite because i thought that was it but it didnt help anything. the only thing i can come up with is that the battery is junk but its a brand new battery.
this is my first post im sorry if i confuse anyone. if you need to know anything i can let you guys know.

I may be mistaken, but I believe this bike has points and they might be corroded.
If it were a bad battery, it wouldn't have enough juice to crank start the engine.
and now that I reread the comment, I would start with a different plug (after checking current spark plug which should look slightly beige if things are running correctly)

No, the CM's did not have points, they used an early CDI system. What you're describing is a classic case of a carb with a clogged low speed circuit, or pilot circuit. It's a common issue. Extra care must be given when cleaning motorcycle carbs, as the passages that control low speed (aka, pilot) are extremely small, and particularly difficult to get properly cleaned out. The small jet off to the side of the main jet is the one you're having problems with, and you need to be very sure you have the passages that it feeds clear. Take your time, blow air through them, and be prepared to take carb cleaning chemicals to them several times to get them right.
Good luck!

What exactly did you do to "clean the carbs" ??
Regardless, you might have missed something that a good chemical cleaner in the gas might get.
Try a double dose of Berrymans B12 Chemtool and run it through a couple of hot/cold cycles.
If it improves, ride it out.
If you haven't replaced the plugs yet, that would be my first suggestion.......no matter how good they "look".
Dried out plug boots or wires could be a problem too.
