    New Seat Wanted - 1982 CX500 Custom

I want to replace the seat on my bike with a non-stock option. I don't like the stepped/split seat design because I want to sit right where the step is.

Problem is, I have no idea what my options are. Using google/ebay/etc. will usually result in stock replacements (again, I don't want a stepped seat) or custom seats and I don't know what will work for my bike. It seems the seats for the 81-82 500's were kind of exclusive to those years (at least based on what I saw).

    Suggestions/resources? Thank you.

Have you had the seat pan off so you can SEE what is under there where you think you want to sit ??
Most often it is the fender or other stuff that generally isn't movable so you can't move back too far.

Then......you have a bike that is 35 years old. Finding ANY parts for it probably will be a problem, maybe a serious one.

So, you will need to contact some custom seat re-builders and see about having the seat you have now re-done.

Contact some bike shops in the area to see if anybody locally does that.
If not, do a Google search for "motorcycle seats" and make some calls.

    Sorry for the delayed response.

I'm not looking to relocate anything on the bike to make this work - I'm just looking for a replacement seat that will bolt on where the current seat is. If replacing just the seat pad is an option, that will work too, I just don't know "where to look" so to speak. There's way too many results in an internet search to know what will or will not work for my needs.

OK so now we have other options.

Custom seat makers like Russell probably could re-cover.

And call around to bike shops to see if there is an upholstery store that does bike seats.
Or call around to upholstery shops yourself.
