Debaffling - to summarize - sorry, bear with me.

I'm sorry for being a n00b, starting a de-baffling thread. I'm not lazy. I've searched and read many, many posts. I'd just like to make sure I have it all sorted out in my head. Bear with me.

I can't afford pipes this season. Not to mention, what I'd really like doesn't seem to exist yet (M109 style, swept)

I also live in a nice, quiet townhouse complex and wish to remain a good neighbour at this juncture. With that, I'd like a mild improvement on stock sound. I'm not expecting power gain but I'd sure like to avoid any power loss, as I read some have experienced.

    As I understand, from reading...

Drilling holes in the final baffle will result in a moderate increase in volume without making much change in tone.
Drilling, with hole-saw and extension, through the first internal baffle encountered through the tailpipe (the cyclops baffle?) will improve tone (deeper rumble) without making much change in volume.

Am I on track, so far?

    thanks for indulging me

Sounds about right from Youtubes I have seen. The holesaw option makes the better sound IMO, some will disagree. In your place I would do the drilling around the perimeter of the back plate and see if that is sufficient. This mod can be easily repaired by cutting a disc to cover the holes back up and riveting it in place.

    good luck

I did the honest ab mods on my 2013, punched a hole in both baffle middles and drilled the 4 holes in the outer end and got a very small change in noise.

My original pipes on my M50 were gutted when I got it. You could get away from the house fairly quietly but if you gave it a twist it would let you know how it barked. See the video below:

So here's a wee bit of an update.
I borrowed the hole saw and built the extension. When I looked up the pipe of my '14 M50, I didn't see what I had expected from the various youtube vids I've seen. The first thing, going into the centre pipe from the back. is something resembling a back-facing trumpet. I don't think I want to start drilling that out.
I'll just do the back baffle drill for now. However, being a little OCD, I built a template.
