    how to adjust chain

I am planning on doing some of the maintenance on my bike.

Is there a good site that shows how to adjust the chain?

    thank you

Your owner's manual should tell you exactly how to do it.

Pick up a manual for specifics but basically you just set the bike on it's sidestand, loosen the axle nut and give your adjusters a 1/4 turn at a time EVENLY until you have about 3/4-1" play up and down half way between the sprockets on the bottom.

    DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN!!!!!!!
You'll wear out your chain quick and your butt too from the drone vibration that it will cause (don't ask how I know this ). Your chain MUST have some slack too it to account for the up and down movement of the swingarm. If it doesn't, every bimp will help to stretch your chain and weaken it, possibly causing a break on the road.

I did my adjustment from the manual. It did not say anything about adjusting the bolts the same amount. So I did not. Any idea how to get it back into factory spec? Is my bike safe to ride? Thanks for any help.

If the adjuster bolts are not even then your wheel isn't straight, there should be marks on to give you an idea how far you have moved it and if it is straight.
A good test is to find a quiet even stretch of road, let the pressure of the handlebars,if the bike swings to either side you aren't lined up correctly.

Thanks, I have it in the same marks on both sides. The bike rides strait so It must be close. I will try the wheel alignment when I have more time. It looks like the best way I have found to do it yet. Thanks again

    Sure thing.

Some folks use high-falootin' lasers to do it. Someday, maybe I'll be that advanced. For now, it's bricks, duct tape, string and aggravation!
