    Question about the leaking carbs on my 86 Yamaha Radian

    I could use a hand with this...I bought an 86 Yamaha Radian that didn't run. I got it
    running but some carb issues...

    Carbs and tank were all gunked up with rust, etc. I cleaned tank and all well
    there. I pulled carbs and cleaned out. Mainly the 2 metal tube fuel passages (
    2-3 inch) that connect the fuel supply from carb to carb. Did this and the bike
    starts/runs but idling very high but main issue is leaking gas now.

    The leak is coming from a drain tube between two of the carbs. And here I am
    not clear...connecting the carbs are the metal tubes per above but also two
    black plastic T connectors with rubber/plastic tubes about 10 inches that hang
    off the T. Gas is coming steadily from one of them. I'm not clear on what they
    do and how if at all they connect to something. And why the leak from this one
    tube? Carb still plugged up or something?

    I looked at carb diagrams and can't get a clear sense of what these plastic
    T's do or how they are hooked up if at all.

    I appreciate your help.

    At the least you'll need to pull the carbs off and blow out all the passages with compressed air and clean the jets.
    Sounds like one of the floats is sticking and overfilling the float bowl with gas and flowing out the vent tube.

    The tube you are referring to is the carb bowl vent pipe which means that one or more of the two carbs attached to it have a float problem. My guess would be a hung float valve/s caused by some of the rust/crap from the tank clogging it/them. A thorough carb clean is in order as they are probably going to be crudded up real good...pay particular attention to the pilot jets just after the venturi's as they are tiny and easy to clog up. An inline filter is also a good idea...make sure it doesn't reduce the fuel flow or you will have another problem to deal with.
