2005 V Star 650 problems

Hi, I left the light on on my 2005 V Star Custom and ran down the battery. I got a new battery and even changed the fuse, but it won´t start... the head lamps usually come on when i turn on ignition, the bike horns do not work... everything is pretty much just dead. Does anyone have any ideas on what i´m doing wrong or what he problem could be? Thanks

As with most things, it is often useful to read the directions.

Your new battery needs to be thoroughly charged before being used.
When it is brand new, it's pretty much dead.

10 to 24 hours with a 2 amp charger should do.

Thanks i'll try that out, but there is also the issue of the old battery... i recharged it and put it in the bike, but it still wouldn't start

The assumption is that the OLD battery won't take and hold a charge because...........it is old and worn out.
