Apparently, you're out of warranty? Correct?
Oh yeah, way over on mileage. What's interesting and the good news is that the Transmission is fine.
They found a broken wire from the computer that was not sending the info. to the trans. correctly. The battery needed to be changed because it was sending out way too few amps. GM recommends a Trans. fluid flush at 60k miles on this car and I'm at 80k so I"m having them do that. A new air filter as well.....................and a crap load of overpriced labor which all equals up to $525.00. You can't have the simplest thing fixed on a car for less than $300.00 minimum these days. Ain't like the old days. Of course the cars from the 70's & 80's were about toast by 100k miles, so whatever.
My father worked for GM for 37years but like I said my next vehicle will be a Honda.
I realize that however you can put 200k miles on a typical Honda without having any engine or trans. issues. I commute 45miles oneway to work everyday. I'm gonna sell this thing and get a little Honda Civic 5-Speed. Besides Pontiac is now going to be discontinued as a brand. Might as well get out now.
It's amazing how when I was a kid, a car with 100K on the clock was soon to be put out to pasture. Now, they're just hitting their stride.
It was an eye opening experience buying a car for my eldest son this year.
All that aside. I'd vowed never to buy a GM product again. I had a cherry, low mile Olds 98 luxo-boat. (Down here, if you're willing to forgo style for a good deal...you can find awesome iron for cheap because the population of Blue Hairs is so large.) When that sled hit 40K....the insides (interior shhh....shhhhtuff) literally popped out. Literally, cartoonlike. Riding back from Atlanta, the odo turned 40.....boing! Off went the mirror..the panels popped out of the doors, black tar oozed up from the dash, plastic kick panel doors fell off....weirdest thing I ever saw. Then...I went through...two head gaskets...two A/C climate control modules (to the tune of $1500 apiece), and when I recently got rid of it...the Trans was starting to take a shizz. I had an extended warranty, and that saved my ass, but the minute that expired.......hasta la vista.
Recently, as a measure of belt tightening, and my collection of classic junk in the driveway was starting to show it's age. Whereas, the cost of maintaining and repairing was starting to outweigh common sense..... I decided to get rid of Mrs. Intimid8er's car, and get us two cars for the same or less payment. I absolutely stole an HHR for her that she wanted. Low..low...low miles...and a price that'd make one weep. It was still under factory warranty, and thus, the extended warranty was fairly cheap. So...I took a chance on it. The amount of miles she drives, is nothing, so this car will probably serve us well...however, I must say....it's far exceeded our expectations. The other car...well...let's say....it's tough roughing it and belt tightening...![]()
I've had some trouble with my GMC Sonoma. From a bad fuel up when new (got replaced under warranty) to sunshades that break with heat age and cost way too much to replace. I've just recently started needing to dump money into it to fix expensive problems. The interior and paint are showing the damages of 13yrs of hard life in the desert southwest. It needs a new clutch (something I replaced not long ago), brakes, and shocks.
And despite all that. I'm more like to buy another GM product than I will a Toyota. The one and only I had (Corolla) had the block crack on me, right after I had the 100,000mi service done.
I really, really, really hate tailgaters on the interstate. What, 75 in a 65 isn't fast enough for you, do you really need to be so close to me that I can't see your front plate in any of my mirrors? Do you not see the line of cars in the right lane going 65 or less? There is nowhere to go! Calm down and get off my a$$!
In the cage I let off the gas to close the gap then BRAKE CHECK! That usually backs them off real quick, but on the bike that would be a somewhat riskier proposition.
No, my avatar has not been photoshopped.
I had one of these situations in my cage last week when I had to make an emergency trek up to Ohio, going through all the twisties on I-40 in TN. Did the brake check and she backed off.
I tell you though, riding has given me more awareness of bikes when I'm in the cage. All the more reason for more people to get out and learn to ride!
My Rant: I didn't get to see Harry Potter 6 last night!!![]()
