    Flipping Bikes

There's a '91 Suzuki Intruder 1400 for sale around the corner of my house. When I called the guy about it, he wants $1000 OBO. He has "no idea" how many miles are on it, and the bike has been sitting for six months. At a glance, I can tell that the bike needs a new seat and a new coat of paint on the tank. The blue book value on the bike is about $2300.

Provided the bike doesn't need much more work other than the aforementioned and a basic cleaning/inspection, do any of you believe that it's possible to make a few bucks on this bike?

I plan on going to check out the bike up close today and to ask a few more questions about the bike's condition.

i like the OBO part. it basically says he's not actually expecting to get $1k for it, and will likely take $700 or $800 eventually.

Dude I'd be all over that if i lived anywhere near you. for $800, drop a few hundo on it and its easily worth like $2k.

That's if, like previously said, that there isn't anything else wrong with the bike.

The bike has been sitting 6 months and no idea of mileage!!!
    Does he have the tittle??

It is prime time for bike sales, so if you are prepared to do some work and are good at selling, go for it.

    ROFL!

If you're willing to put some time into it, go for it. There are a million bikes out there, just sitting. If I ever find one, I'll ride it for a while and sell it.

Yeah, I'd be VERY tempted to keep the bike for myself! On the other hand, having 2-bikes in a one-car garage takes up a bit of space as it is.

My roommate and I are going to look at the bike today and find out some more info.

I've been racking my brain for months trying to figure out how to make some cash from home, and I can't think of a better way to do it than wrenching on bikes.

You too, huh? I can't seem to get enough photos together to make a portfolio. That's my current plan.

Look VERY carefully, and look very carefully at the title and VIN. If someone is willing to take 1/3 of book value, and is very vague about the history of the bike, it is probably either a complete piece of crap or stolen.
If the VIN checks out and it runs, and you can fix it up yourself, it might make a good project that will show you a profit.

    Huh?

So what? You're planning on selling photos of yourself? Maybe some things are better left unsaid Clint....

These are things that I'm definitely taking into consideration. The bike's been in the guy's driveway since we moved into this place 8 months ago; it appears that he bought a new bike and never got around to selling the old one (or something of that nature).

What's the best way to check out the VIN?
