My bike seems to be attrocious, with 13km/L or in your terms 30M/Gal... that is with a yamaha 4 cyl 250cc.

DAMN, that sounds a bit low. I used to get about 45city, 55 on long trips on my old SecaII. That was 600cc 4cyl. I have not checked on the V-star yet. Just filled it up for the first time the other day though, and wasn't thinking about it.

I usually get 300km to a tank (22 liter capacity), but my bike must have been really enjoying the trip into the Alps last weekend ... I filled it last night at 300 km, and it only took 16.5 liters to top it off!

I get low 40's in mixed riding with plenty of quick windups. I could probably get 45-48 if I rode it gently.

I get 48-50 mpg on my Burgman 650. 60-65 mpg is average for a Burgman 400

Unless you are doing almost all wide open throttle all the time, I would think you should be around 60 mpg.

Steady High speed (80+)or very heavy throttle can get a Burgman 400 down to 45 mpg. I would think the same would be true for your bike as well, if your riding your 250 cc at steady highway speeds (55-66) and using heavy throttle.
If you have had this a while, and are comfortable, it may be time to upgrade to a bigger machine if highway speeds are the norm.

    I get between 45mpg (4.6 litre/100km) to 50mpg (5.3 liter/100km) on my SV650S.

I have a 17 litre tank, the fuel LED starts blinking when I got about 4litres left and that's usually around after 250km so I should get about 325km on a full tank.

thanks for that all. does anyone know - do 4cyl 250cc's generally use lots of fuel, or could there be something wrong with the bike?

Sounds a little low. Do you ride in the upper region of the rev range? I suspect that's where my gas mileage went.

Not sure of the miles per gallon figure, but I do about 100 miles before the fuel warning light comes on.

    On my C50, I get about 40 mpg. On my old GZ250, I got 60 - 70 mpg.
