Smile Which year sv650 is best?

    Hi!

From all the praise I hear regarding the SV650, I think that this will be my next bike. I'm in no hurry to upgrade just yet but was looking for some input on which year to buy if I do decide to get one.

I know that 2003 was the first year they started fuel injections on the sv. between 2003 and 2006, are there any major differences in performance, etc?

I'm most likely looking to buy a used one (me = poor) for the cheaper price. If anyone could give me some suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.

    THANKS EVERYONE!

Get one with The fast- idle rather than a "choke-like'' lever. It makes cold start easier.

    I believe it's available after '04.

    Thanks louis~

So it seems that a good used sv650 would be a 2004 since nothing really changed since then. 2004 also comes in yellow which I have a matching helmet for ^^. Thanks again!!

I know that the '05-'06 S-model has a coolant reservoir you can actually get to, unlike the 2003 model. In Oregon, you're gifted with lots of oxygen and 97 octane gas, so even an older SV should run just fine. But it IS very nice to push a button on the FI models and just have it start right up every time.

The kbb retail value for an 04 sv650 is around 4200$ and $2880 for trade-in value. How much would you guys pay for one? from a dealer or from a private party?

I know it really depends on the condition and mileage. Lets assume it is in good condition with an average mileage for an 04.

    Thanks !!!!

I don't know what is a good price because I am never very good at pricing.

If you're a good mechanic or if you know one, then get a used one (but make sure you inspect the hell out of it before you buy).

Otherwise, find yourself a good negotiator and then buy from a dealer.

    Good luck, mon.

Thanks! buying a used one from the dealer isn't a bad idea either. At least I would be able to have some sort of gaurantee in its condition. But you right, I'll need to be a good negotiator or find someone who is.

I had a friend who used to be a used car salesman going with me when I bought mine. He did all of the talking and I just signed the check.

Got my brand new SV650S for $5,999 out of door.
