Headlight Modulators

This is a discussion on Headlight Modulators within the Sportbikes & Sport-tourers forums, part of the Bike Talk category; Anyone use them? I have found some sources. I would think they would shorten the life of the headlights....

I don't have one, but both the instructors at the MSF course I recently took recommended them. I'm going to get a taillight modulator first. I'm more concerned about being rear-ended. Don't know how they affect bulb life but for the added safety I wouldn't really care.

I don't know if its for wishful thinking on my part, but I use different colored headlights(hyper blue, green on purple). I justify that people may see a headlight and think it's another car, but if you have a rare color headlight people may be able to distinguish you better. Plus headlights are a lot cheaper than those modulators!

I've only seen big touring bikes use the modulators, never sportbikes. I used to have Xenon lights on my Katana. At least, I think that's what kind they were. They appeared to be different colors depending on the angle on which you saw them. Sometimes blue, pink, green, or clear. They were awesome. Those are xenon right?

can someone drop me the information on xenon or other aftermarket lights for a gixxer (2002). I would like to know if there are any plug in (no modification to existing headlight brackets or connections) headlights out there.

    NO to Comagination

Go anywhere but Comagination. If you do some research on them you will find a lot of disappointed people. Myself included. Half the stuff don’t fit the bikes they say they fit.

I had so much trouble with Phil at comagination. First he sent the wrong one so I had to return it at my expense and pay for shipping of the new one again.. Then he sent one that was broke, again I sent it back at my expense. Then he tells me it bench tests' fine, would I like a new one or the old one? I said new. that was over two weeks ago. No contact no refund. So caution it might be easy to install but if you need support it won’t happen. I will get one from one of many other sites. Just a few replays up a guy has listed a few other places to get one.

Both of our bikes have headlight modulators and added driving lights that are on fulltime. Modulators will actually extend the life of a headlight bulb. I have had the same SilverStars in my Vstrom for 3 years with no failures. Extra modulating/flashing brake lights are a big + for tailgaters too.

Doesn't an '02 GSXR take H4 bulbs? If so, there are tons of aftermarket replacements out there. Just google H4 headlight bulbs.

    Modulators for Headlights

I have been using a Kisan Technologies pathBlazer (headlite) and tailBlazer (taillite) for over 6 months now, and I'm very pleased with their performance. The Kisan headlite modulator flashes the high beam during daylight only, and you can switch to low beam if you have traffic in front of you and are concerned about annoying them. When flashing, the filament the modulator doesn't completely shut the current off, thus avoiding any "shock"
to the high beam filament. This, I believe, is unique to Kisan. Visit their site for more infomation. Very well constructed, with 30 day satisfactory trial, and one year warranty. Also these units are plug and play, no wire cutting or splicing.

Not unique for Kisan. All modulators must conform to the same criteria as set out by the DOT. Both the US of A and Canada have the same criteria on the books. So you may legally use them anywhere South or North of the border. Modulators come with a copy of info from the DOT and must comply to that info. Many LEO's are not aware of modulating headlights and will pull you over for "flashing headlights." Have spent over 3 years now educating the locals and a few across Canada. No individual LEO can know all the laws but I know this law and am willing to share. Only one LEO (a newbie) issued me a inspection tag and I had it removed/nullified the following day at the detachment.

I took mine off the Vstrom after being told by several cagers that they thought I was signaling them to go ahead a intersections!!!
If loud pipes save life's, imagine what learning to ride that thing could do!!!

    #1 you got their attention.
#2 if you did talk to them they now know it is legal and what the modulator does. They will not make that mistake again.
#3 You still have to ride like you are invisible.

I use both headlight modulator and tail light modulator on mine.

Headlight modulator is legal in all 50 states by Federal DOT regulations, but the taillight modulator is not. Check your state laws regarding tail light modulators before adding it.

If I get a tailgater and activate my brake light switch the driver behind me backs off. I also keep an eye on my mirror at a stop light and when I see a car approaching I start activating my brake light.
