wanting something different in a bike

So gentlemen I am starting to think that the Z has done its purpose to me, but to upgrade to what i need from it (aka i'm fat and suspension is for someone about 100lb less than me) does not seem fiscally responsible.

This is what i'm considering and would like input if possible. I'm not ready for the zx-14 jump. I'm not responsible enough for that big of a jump. But what i'm looking somewhat at is in the FZ1, 1200 bandit ect ect range. Something with a bigger frame, but not a true holy hand grenade of antioch sportbike. I have ridden Clint's bandit for a few miles just as an fyi.

So far my little bit research has lead me into the FZ1, Bandit, kawasaki zxr1100, kawasaki z1000. Does anyone have experience with any of these critters?

I would check for an aftermarket rear shock.

    preferably one that is adjustable.

    MOTORCYCLE AFTERMARKET SHOCKS AND SUSPENTIONS

all I found from my brief search.

Dennis kirk (my first choice) didn't readily have anything available.

jim, I did look into about 3 or 4 different brands of shocks ect ect.. and it would cost me 1/2 of what my bike is worth to put those upgrades into it.

and wouldn't that still be cheaper than the alternative, or are you going off the premise even with the change in shocks that you still won't be happy with the bike.

How about just getting a stiffer spring ?

Back when I still had the 749s, the trackday suspension guy suggested that I get a stiffer shock spring because of my weight. I just decided to lose 40 lb to resolve that issue.

On the other hand, if you desire more power, then that's another story (although losing weight can help that too, at a rate of 7 lb per horsepower, roughly).

I have had a share of my experience on the Asian version of the FZ that made it to the market and its absolutely the best driving machine I have even testes and you could choose it if you are impressed with its specs.

I was this close { } last year to signing a deal on a 2008 FZ-1 in red with the gold wheels. I'm 6'0 and about 260 and it seemed to be a good fit for me. I love the looks and it has good reviews AND NICE POWER (150HP).

Another bike I would have you consider is the 2008 B-king if you can get over the controversal styling. I say this because you can still find them brand new for around $8000 or less and some guys are scoring used ones with less than 1000 miles with aftermarket pipes already installed for the $6000 range. Thats cheaper than a FZ1 and your getting a lot more bike, IMHO

The thing you may not like is the B-king is a crazy bike with 181hp and a lot of torque so it may take some personal restraint on your part but it does have fully adjustable suspension and a very large frame. Bang for the buck you just can't beat it right now. It was originally a $13k bike.

My lusting over the Connie has been an ill concealed affair.

However, I'm not ashamed to admit, I've been casting a lecherous look here and there at the new VFR 1200.

BTW.....Clint.....Yummy? Yummy? What kind of a dude uses yummy?

the reason I'm leaning towards a concours is

it's a small cruiser in a rather crowded field that says "if it ain't Honda, fork it"

    and

it's motor is a slightly detuned 1000 cc displacement cooking about 100 hp, that's 100 hp, with a bike weight around 600 lbs. This is for the ancient model I'm looking at, the newer models have MORE POWER.

Lastly, found one about 10 years old, and they don't hold their value for squat; good enough bike, I figure, just doesn't hold it's value.

    That's okay with me.
