With some more info we might be able to make some suggestions.

One thing is for sure is that you have a throttle problem, and you don’t know what else it might all of a sudden start doing, like maybe going wide open unexpectedly, so my suggestion is to not ride it at all till you get it fixed.

have just been looking the bike over and it seems the choke is a bit tight to move and then when pushed to off again its gone loose, if that was jammed open then that would raise the idle speed so it could be that i suppose, anyone know how to adjust the choke tension?

This wouldn't be a frayed cable would it? Not familiar with the choke assembly on your model.

If it was jammed in the operated position, it might do that........but what you describe sounds like normal choke operation.
It needs some "drag" to stay where you put it........until you get all the way to OFF.

I agree you shouldn't ride it any until this is fixed.
That bike has enough power to sling-shot you to the cemetary if it take off at the wrong time.

Most likely that something is binding mechanically. Trace the throttle cables and see where they end up.
When this happens, if you turn it off and twist the grip, does it feel like things are moving right or not ??
If you twist it open, does it snap back to idle if you let go ? It should.

the actual throttle when twisting if fine, it snaps straight back to the right position, its just the engine stays on higher revs than normal, ive re-ajusted the idle speed to 1200 rpm and going to look at the choke cable today.
Oh and i did run the bike round the block a few times earlier just to get the engine hot to ajust the idle timer and i found that when in gear if i release the throttle (which goes back to off position) the bike still keeps running as if its got cruise control if that helps anyone to locate the problem.

Next you need to inspect the throttle mechanism AT THE CARB(s). If the cables are returning properly, they could be loose at the carb.......thus allowing the actual throttle plates to stay open even though the cables are returning. It is possible that you have a little stickyness at the carb AND a broken return cable too.

You also could have a vacume leak that occurs only when the engine gets warm.
Check the carb boots from carb to air box and the other side, carb to engine.
