2008 Yamaha R1 1'4 mile?

This is a discussion on 2008 Yamaha R1 1'4 mile? within the Sportbikes & Sport-tourers forums, part of the Bike Talk category; I've read of it getting a 9.97@141.2mph. Does that sound right? Just seems a little fast....

I would tend to believe it. I think cycle world has been getting nines in the quarter mile with most litre bikes for about the past five years. That is completly stock also. I just read an article on how they get the quarter mile times and it is pretty serious. Which is good because every bike is completly stock with proper air pressures on OEM tires, pretty much what you would get from the dealer. Which keeps it fair but it also means a pro is riding them all day to get those times.

I was watching Twist the Throttle and I think it was Kenny Roberts Jr. who was saying that the stock super sports now are only like 3-4 seconds slower around the rack than a full race motogp bike. Thats just amazing for something under 15k
