I have a GS500 2007. I just bought new sparkplugs, air filter, oil filter, oil change, new stock exhaust, and I took the float bowls off the carburetor and cleaned them. I didn't take it all apart or anything. I've only owned the bike a couple months. I ride through the winter also. When I got done cleaning the carb I accidentally put some hoses on wrong. I fixed them, though, about a week ago. It starts fine, idles great, normal throttle response, but when I ride it it's slowwww. No backfires or anything, just not the same power I use to get. It reminds me of a 250 I use to have. Lol that's the only problem, though. Any ideas? And there's oil on my sparkplug.
So why did you do all this, was there a problem before?
Oil on the plugs is not a good sign but it could be a number of things.
Are you sure you didn't overfill the oil?
I would suggest it is missing or just firing on one cylinder...it would feel very different to how it used to...not just slow. As you fitted new plugs I would start by making sure all the leads and caps are secure. Any loose caps will cause misfires. Also check the routing of the cables, fuel lines and any connectors or wiring you moved when doing the maintenance. Make sure you have not dislodged any of the float pins and that they are working smoothly. let us know if any of these or any other suggestions help... or not... then more can be suggested.
Good Luck
