Newbie W/GS500F Needs Help
I have had In-Line Two, Three, and Four cyclinder motorcycles over the past 36 years. I always found them very smooth and relatively good engine torque over a large range.
I just got the a 2009 GS500F and am having trouble getting used it. At idle it vibrates. On slow start off, it feels like it is going to stall. It never does, but. Once over 3000 RPM, it purrs like a kitten and is very responsive. When riding now, I make sure my revs are above 3000 and everything is fine. If I drop below 3000, in any gear, and try to accelerate, the bike will chug.
Is all the above normal? I had heard that V-Twins very very torquey in all rev ranges.
I am happy with the bike, I just want to know if I have a keeper. Please Advise.

No, not normal; not even close.
Is the bike stock ??
If yes, then get some Berrymans B12 Chemtool and put about 2 ounces per gallon in the gas.
Drain the float bowls.
Run it for a couple of days.
Might need plugs too. From your description, one cylinder isn't firing at low revs.
Whatever posessed you to actually BUY a bike in that condition in the first place ??

It has about 2000 miles on it. I was told that's how twins are. It feels fine above 3000 RPM.

It wouldn't hurt to try the suggestions in the previous post. A few years back one of my riding buddies wife bought a new 2008 gs500f. It is a parallel twin and this one was absolutely horrible at low rpms. It was a horrible learner bike, she stalled it constantly and was getting very frustrated with it. He had me take it for a while and I stalled it right off the bat. I couldn't believe the amount of throttle it took and riding the clutch to get it started off. One afternoon my lady and his wife traded bikes. We had just purchased a ninja500 to get the little lady started at the same time. After that day they tryed and tryed to return the GS but the dealer wouldn't do it. He ended up selling it and getting her a ZX-6 which she claimed was much easier to handle at low speeds than the GS. Yeah it rattled something horrible at an idle, with those fairings on it it made quite a racket.

It's a lie......or the person is just ignorant.
