2000 VL1500 Intruder / Lost Steering Lock Keys
My cousin lost the steering lock keys for his intruder. What is the best way to resolve the issue? Can a key be made from the serial number sequence or does the lock need to be replaced? If it needs to be replaced, how do you go about changing it? FlatTracker55

Just forget that you HAVE a steering lock.
Are you sure it wasn't just the spare ignition key?
Don't think I've ever seen a bike that uses a key that is different than the ignition.........but that don't mean much.

He said the ignition & the steering lock are different !

It that really is the case, first call a Honda shop, armed with the key code or the VIN.
If that doesn't work, call a locksmith.......with title in hand.
P.S. There is a Gulfport in Illinios ???

AS I recall the steering lock is a different style key. If you can get the bike on a trailer and bring it to a locksmith, they can make you a key very easily for about $25. If you call a mobile locksmith they can come out and do it, but plan on spending a least $100. You need the key to get the cylinder out, unless you just destroy it by drilling it out with progressively larger drill bits. If you have a Suzuki dealer close by, they might be able to help you, as I thing there are only a few steering lock keys and they may have an assortment they can try. But again, you'll have to bring the bike to them.

Dr Bob, Thanks ! Are you sure about drilling it out with progressively larger drills. He may need to do that just to get it to the dealer since it is locked. He hasn't rode the bike all summer. If I don't motivate him to get with it, he will find it to be the end of next summer before he gets to it. Oh Easy Rider, he has the title, thanks ! FlatTracker55 / Rex

All bike dealers tow (trailer) bikes for service.
THAT might be cheaper than drilling the lock and replacing it.......unless he intends to just leave it disabled.

I do know a lock smith around here that makes keys for bikes that people have lost the keys too.
Sad thing is most times they only want one key made to fit the lock again.

Sounds easier than drilling it, Thanks !

Assuming that really is true..........what's the point of replacing it ??

Me neither. Added to the fact that once in a great while, there might be a good reason for another biker to do you a favor and MOVE your parked bike out of harms way...........and having the forks locked make that hard to do safely.
