You need to give WAYYYYYYYYYY more information than "the engine sounds wrong" before I can even start to figure out what is wrong. What the hell does "engine sounds wrong" mean? Does it bang? Tap? Knock? Ping? Grind? Is it to loud? To quite? Idle rough? Idle to fast? To slow? Sucking sounds? Rattles? Popping? Backfiring? Radio tuned to a Black Eyed Peas song?
Yes much more informantion is needed but..........
Maybe this isn't as complicated as it first might appear.
What exactly does the above statement mean ??
If you can SEE a spark around the front plug while everything is still connected, then you probably need new plug wires and boots.......and plugs.
Just removing the boot from that plug/wire might solve the problem.....but you don't want to leave it that way long, as it might reach out and bite your ASS while riding.
That plug wire might just be loose. Do NOT check it while the bike is running.
Ok sorry for the lack of info here gos...I turn the key and she starts fine however i can see the plug sparking it tits off . I took the head of the plug and it continues though the ht lead and it bites(electric shock)The engine sounds loud and if i pull the throttle it seems to sound like its struggling to pull power. There is a tapping sound coming from the front cylinder it was there before but is more noticeable now.Hope this helps
Still not following you. What do you mean by "it starts fine however I can see the plug spaking it tits off?" Do you mean you can actually see a spark coming from someplace with the spark plug installed, the wire attached, and the bike running? Or do you mean you removed the spark plug from the motor and you can see it firing when you test it? Or do you see a spark from the wire when you remove the wire from the plug? Do you get shocked when you touch the plug wire with the plug installed in the engine and everything hooked up normally, or when you remove the plug wire from the plug?
I can see the spark though the cylinder it i remove the wire of the plug it continues thought the wire giving me a shock
You aren't listening good enough.
I TOLD you not to check the wire and boot while the engine was running.
Guess you have to learn some things the hard way.
Let's try this again: If you can see the spark when everything is connected properly, then you need new wires and boots and plugs too, just to be safe.
Is English not your first language ??
If you can really "see the spark through the cylinder", then the bike has VERY serious problems.........or you are smokin' some bad sheit.![]()
Yes i was listerning.....i did that before i came on here, i was just saying what i had done!!!!!
so bottom line is your saying if i can see a spark coming from the plug cap it may well be new wires .boots and plugs?
Yes, the plug wire is shot- for that matter if one is shot the other is most likely shot also, or soon will be. Unfortunately for you, the VS750 uses plug wires and boots that are permanently attached to the ignition coils, so the best way to fix this is to replace the coil assemblies. The part numbers are 33410-38A11 and 33420-38A11, about $75-$80 each new. Kind of stiff, but the good news is that these same exact coils fit every VS700, 750, and 800 from 1985 to 2010, so used ones are very easy to find from wrecking yards or Ebay in the $40-60 range for the pair, sometime cheaper if you are lucky. Look for ones off a newer year model VS800 Intruder or S50, and they will have plenty of life left in them. They are easy to change yourself. Alternately, you could try to rig up some new wires onto your existing coils, but I have never seen good results with this kind of redneck engineering, and if the wires are so old as to be throwing a spark then the coils are way past their life span anyways and should be replaced. Grab a used set of coils off Ebay and you should be fine for another 10,000-20,000 miles at least.
Thanks very much for the DrBob.I will hunt about and replace my coils once iv looked at it and let you know soon as cheers
