Looking to get a 09 Yamaha yzf r6, can anyone tell what there like?

They're like a race bike. Do you have any riding experience?

They are as close as you can get to one of the bikes the pro's race & still be street legal, they are so M-effing fast that they can make the eye balls roll back in your head and make your vision blur, and they are not a good choice for a beginner.
I'm just guessing here but if you have to ask what the bike is your probably a beginner.

I know the R6 is scary fast. I have ridden with a young fellow who bought one as a first bike. He told me how fast it will go in a straight line. I sure hope he learns to corner better or he will become one with a mountain side. These are not for newbies, they are for experienced riders with good skill levels and a good dose of common sense.
i went and drove my buddies the other day, scared the %%%% out of me! every time i would change gears it would pop up and hit me in the chest,so much power, ive never gone from 0-60 so fast in my life, so fast. I want a sport bike really bad but i know the R6 is out of my league right now, Any suggestions

I know it's a bigger cc motor than the R6, but it's a V twin instead of a I-4, and it only has about half the HP of any of the RR bikes.
Guys/girls that learn how to ride on slower bikes become much better & faster riders in a lot less time than ones that start out on high HP bikes, when you start out on high HP bikes all you learn is how to twist your right wrist in the straights.
There are several other options too if you want something with a lower fairing, this Ninja would be a good choice.

What about the suzuki gsxr, my brother in law just bought one and its his first bike and he actually doesnt find it that bad
There are 4 600cc bikes I would never recommend for beginner riders, the Yamaha R-6, the Suzuki GSXR-600, the Honda CBR600RR, and the Kawasaki ZX-6R
Your going to do what what your going to do based what you think is best for you, and I know a lot of your "friends" are going to tell you that you will "out grow" a lower HP bike in a very short time, but the term "out grow" must mean something different to some young men than it does to me.
I'll tell you a true story that happened to me, but first I'll tell you a little about myself, first off I'll be 60 years old next month & I've been riding motorcycles since I was 16, (That's me in my avatar earlier this summer riding my 1250 Bandit on a track,) now you might be thinking that this old fart has no business telling anyone what is or isn't a good bike for someone young enough to be his grandson, but the last guy that thought & said that was riding a R-6, so here is the true story part.
I was stopped at one end of a twisty road not far from my house when a group of sport bike riders pulled up to me and asked me if I had just come from the other end, I said yes, than they wanted to know if there were any cops back that way, or if there was any sand on the road, I told them the road was clean and I hadn't seen any cops, at this point one of them commented on my bike (I was riding my 40 hp DR650) and wondered out loud if a dirt bike would even know the difference, (this was the previously mentioned R-6 rider) than he started telling me how he needed to get an R-1 because he had already (after 3 months riding) out grown his R-6, and that maybe when he gets old he will buy a slow bike.
I'm sorry but even for a 59 year old man that was just to much of a slap in the face, so when they took off I put my helmet back on and took off after them just to see for myself what "out grown the bike" means.
As you found out when you rode your friends bike an R-6 has monster acceleration and in a straight line I never had a chance with my puny 40 hp DR650, but I passed that R-6 and several of the other bikes no less than 6 times in the next 8 miles of twisties, every time we came out to a straight they would blast by me at well over 100mph, but as soon as we got to another twisty part I'd pass them again.
Now I'm not trying to brag myself up as being some kind of super rider because I'm not, all I'm saying is you don't need monster HP to have fun on a bike, in fact all the power can be very intimidating epically to a beginner rider, and if you really want to enjoy yourself,,,,,,,,, there's nothing more fun than being sitting at the end of a twisty road with your helmet off, and your feet up on the bars waiting for your buddy that is on a more powerful bike to get there.
I can't emphasise enough how much more important skill is than HP, and any really good rider will tell you that you learn "skill" quicker on a slower bike than you do on a fast one.

The GSXR is not going to be much better. The only real advantage to the Gixxer is that it would be more stable at the limit. Don't worry about image or impressing people with your bike. Get something like the SV650 and learn how to ride. Starting on a bike like that will help to make you a better rider. The SV650 is a very entertaining ride. I have a good friend that has one and I love ridding it and I have well over 20 years of experience. At speeds that are sane on a public road you would be able to keep up with about any sport bike. I actually intend to get an SV and turn it into a track bike.
rick's already 60??
Also I am thinking that i've outgrown my bike cause I'm not willing to put the cash into it for the proper suspension. Yeah i'm big boned..
suggestion might be an older zx6e, or as said SV650 or maybe a ninja 500 or gsxf 500
Get a less powerful and more forgiving bike to start with. You will actually learn faster and safer. My first bike was a 125 RV Suzuki with 8.75 HP. A very strange collection of parts that would not die. You have to develop the skills and reflexes to ride before tackling a lot of power.
We have a younger rider here(first bike) with a R6 and I can smoke him in the curves with my 650 Strom. He is getting better but so am I at age 64. There is always more to learn so don't be in a hurry to do it all with all the power of a fast bike. Learn to ride a slow bike fast. And ATGATT too.
