This is a discussion on road star section within the Yamaha forums, part of the From the Land of the Rising Sun category; all i hear is how much aftermarket stuff is out there for roadstars, so if there are so many out there, where is the roadstar ...

Road Star Clinic should help you out.
We're having a similar discussion in another thread on here but...........
I don't think every different model of bike should have it's own forum. How about trying a post or two in the Yamaha forum ?
Or how about asking the people talking about the "aftermarket stuff" in whatever place that the discussion is occurring ??
I have a 2008 Yamaha Roadstar Silverado, just put on Power Commander III. Was easy hook up but taking the gas tank off and putting back on was a challenge. Put on K&N Air Filter, then put on Roadburner 3 inch stepped pro drag pipes. Man this bike hums down the road, sounds really throaty, yet not to load. At highway speed, it is very quiet, but pipes will talk to ya if you get on it. Mapped my bike with M431-007 to match my set up. Got the power commander III and roadburner pipes on Ebay very cheap. Do some shopping before spending so much money. This bike is my retirement toy, and I'm 61 years old now and enjoying life at it's fullest. Ride safe.
I'm new to this site and own a 1999 Yamaha Roadstar. Completely stock when I got it and have changed out the pipes for Cobra Boulevard setup along with a DynaJet jet kit and K&N air filter. Runs and sounds real nice. Also put on a set of Metzler tires which made a big difference in improving the handling. Upgraded from a Vstar650 in May and am riding every chance I have. Motor was a bit noisy and mechanical when I first got it so I changed the oil and filter with a K&N oil filter and Mobil 1 20/50 synthetic. Quited down the engine and it just runs a heck of a lot better.
I'm new on here & was wondering if anyone every put a car tire on the rear of there Roadstar? If so what size? 12,000mi. is a way to short of life span at the price u pay for a motorcycle tire.
I dress out my bike with EBAY. Took awhile to get all I wanted, but saved a bunch of money.
The bike will handle differently with a car tire on it. You might get used to it so you can still ride safely .......or maybe not.
You would be MUCH better off looking for a high mileage bike tire......in my opinion.
How much is your SKIN worth to you ??
If you are stuck on this idea, do some searching for "dark side", on here and across the net.
You should find a ton of information, opinions and a few nasty fights.
That is a pretty broad statement.
I bet most riders here already know about EBAY.....and the good and bad points.
You might want to be a little more specific.
have a friend with Stratoliner, he has car tire on it. Has no problem with handling. His fender is alot wider than mine though. He's got 22,000mi on it now.
been riding for 45yrs., opinions very. that's why I ask about the car tire
Along with all of the other opinioins and information you find, you need to realize that virtually NO bike shop or tire shop will do that for you, mostly because of fears of legal liability.
Unless you are going to mount it yourself, you need to find someone willing to DO IT before you buy a tire.
12000 miles!! i wish I could get that on the rear of my 99. I have ran metz, Avons, and Shinkos, etc. etc.... The best I have got was 10k on the Avon Venom X ....I have a Kenda 160-80-16 sitting in the garage ready to be mounted it is supposed to be a 20k tire. I am going to put it on my sons 02 Roadstar and let him be the guinea pig.... I have got better mileage with the 160s over the 150s. guess it is more rubber on the road. Tried the car tire on a Valk years back, did not like it... Squirrely!!!!! Some guys swear by them, but than again some guys think a large wart on your nose is great, if they have one!!! hee hee.
