09 950 touring model V-star
Just curious about this bike. I mentioned to my local Yamaha dealer that I was interested in acquiring a 09 Suzuki C-50 SEC as an upgrade. He mentioned the 09 950 Touring V-Star.
Anyone have any experience with the Yammy. What are the good, bad or just plain ugly thoughts about this model. Both the Zuk and Yammy are nice but the Yammy will cost a fair bit more overall after all is said and done if I upgrade.
Coming from a Vstrom 650 which is a wonderful bullet proof bike but I think I need a lower bike and more of a cruiser style to go with my old back. Picked up the Vstrom a couple times and it really hurt. Just getting too old and weaker to pick up a top heavy bike I guess. Any and all comments will be welcome.

not an expert, but I am inclined to think the 950 might have a bit more power.
But then again, I went for the Concours, and it has more power than either of your choices and I'm quite content with the 40 mpg it gets being driven the way it is.
Concluding with the simple "there's no replacement for displacement" argument.

I would just go with a C90 or 1300 Yamaha. They are not that much heavier than the M or C 50.
Cobra Small Sissybar, Memphis Shades Pop Top windshield w/ quick remove mounts, 200mm Metzeler, Debaffled, John's Kits Forward Controls, Kuryakyn Dually Iso Pegs

Not really interested in a great bunch more displacement. As soon as I cross the 1000 cc threshold the insurance here goes through the roof. Having ridden Lynda's M-50 I like the power delivery of the engine so a much larger engine would be a waste. I can probably pick up a 09 950 for $1000/1200 more than a 09 C50SEC. What I am leary of is the newness of the Yammy compared to a fairly well proven Zuk. The 950 is also air cooled and probably a bit noisier due to the cooling fins. Last thing is aftermarket stuff, the 50's have a lot more available.
So primarily I would like feedback on the 950 from folks who have one. Ergomomics/comfort, vibes, maintenance issues that could be costly etc.

Both are fuel injected, but the Star is belt drive as opposed to shaft ... if that matters to you. I've heard good things about the Star 950, but you might check with current owners. Here are a couple of links.
