We tried to jump it before we got the battery and got nowhere. My husband wants to test the kickstand switch as that may be damaged from sliding the bike around. Its a long shot but won't hurt to test it. We have limited garage space so to get the bike out of the way he lifts and slides the ass end of the bike. If that looks okay I'll have him test the ignition switch.

    Thank you for replying.

Im starting to think youre overlooking something simple here such as the ignition switch. It sounds to me you are getting voltage through everything and it reads good but I would try an ignition switch change. I could be wrong but its a start. It could also be your kill switch as well. Have you tried to jump start it to see if it will start that way???

What did you find? I am going through the same thing with a 1300 V Star. Head light won't come on and changed the battery to a new one and it won't turn over.

I'm having a similar problem. I stopped riding around late November because I had lost my key and because the weather was getting cold, I didn't bother on getting a new key. I finally got it now that the weather is turning pretty nice but now the bike won't crank. I figured it was the battery so I set it to deep charge and tried again the next day. Everything came on, headlights, tail lights, fuel pump, etc. but no turn over. So I figured maybe the starter was seized so I tried bumping the starter at the solenoid. It turns over with plenty if power but no start. I figured after powering it off and on so many times, the carbs were flooded so I drained the bowls and started again. Still no star, I pulled one of the spark plugs out along with the wires ad checked to see if there was spark and nothing. Also, the electric start won't turn over the engine. It turns over only when I bump it manually. Any ideas?

You need to have the battery load tested. Chances are that it is bad and won't really take a charge.

You can't have spark if the engine is not turning over.

Could you claify "won't crank".......and how do you "bump a starter" ??

I would find a good hill and get a running start, put it in gear and drop the clutch.

I am continuously amazed by the sheer brilliance of your comments.

Before bump starting, one should at least be sure that the engine is not seized up.

yes, of course, check the oil, pop the ignition cover, and turn the engine whatever way it turns with a wrench.
