    exhaust turning yellow

    Hello all!

I have a 2005 c90 and the rear cylinder exhaust pipe is turning yellow at the header. The bike only has 5000 miles. I don''t over rev the engine however I shift a little over the the compagny spec. Is this normal and why is it only the rear cylinder?

    Thanks

The rear cylinder and pipe get just a bit hotter than the front due to less air flow. Yellow or "straw" ,as we call it in the machining world, is considered a cold temp. The material would be 450 deg. or less. Steel begins bluing at 480 deg and up. Nothing to worry about.

A little Blue Job Cleaner will remove the pipe discoloration. It will start as yellow, turn gold, then blue, then black if you let it go too long. Normal though- chrome and exhaust heat just don't mix, especially when the rear header pipe does not get much air flow.

Thanks for your insight I was a little nervous to see my pipes turn 20 shades of blue like the old 2 strokes bikes. I try to keep jthhis baby in mint condition.
