    klunk during shifting why ??

    Why is it that my 2015 c90 boss makes a clunk during up or down shifting ??? please help me because it is driving me crazy
    this beast is a rocket but the shifting in between is slow and clunk


    Om my 1982 night cb750 it never made a clunk just a click and most of the time I never even heard a click and also the same with my Dad's aspencade and my Kawasaki 750r
    I have been riding since birth so how on earth is this happening to me and my riding techniques . I have tried (very hard to do) to pull out gently in 1st and when going to 2nd clunk and so on and yes indeed this bike does not like chugging along it wants to GOOOOOO
    everything is sweet on my bike smooth quick, sassy etc... but that darn clink and I feel like I do not know how to properly disengage the clutch and up shift please help me with any suggestions if you have this bike and year or have had similar problems with this type of model

    is it just the characteristics of a big cruiser

    My M109R does the same thing. I was actually told this in advance from a friend at the dealership. Try a Victory, they do the same thing.
    As long as it's not them that has to pay, no one really minds the debt.

    It's a characteristic of most constant mesh motorcycle transmissions.
    I'm really surprised you haven't encountered it before.
    Every bike I've ever had did it to some degree or another.

    Try "pre-loading" the shifter a bit just before you shift. That sometimes helps minimize the clunk.
    So does not winding it out in each gear all the time......or shifting too early. There probably is a sweet spot, RPM wise.
    If you have too much slack in your clutch cable it can make matters worse.

    And lastly, most riders notice that the clunk is reduced with fresh oil in it......and that synthetic is even better but I'm a bit skeptical about that.

    Bottom like: perfectly normal. You might lessen it but it won't go away.

    I really am thankful for your reply and I understand fully and today I was using the heal shifter and it was a tad bit quieter and I am going to be more attentive in finding that sweet spot .I really wish that it had attach but sound is just as good .Tomorrow I will have the clutch cable checked (good advice) to see if there is too much slack also I will do my best not to wind it out before up shifting
    It has been along time and I guess I got overly excited with all that raw power but here where I live it seems like the car drivers were trained to go after cycles

    Thanks for taking to the time to give me a bit of comfort knowing that it is a normal characteristic behavior of these types of cycles

    It's better to enjoy the ride than to question the obvious. Most reviews on these bikes will mention the clunk.
    As long as it's not them that has to pay, no one really minds the debt.

    I guess coming to this forum pays off, I was starting to wonder if it was me or the bike, I have the same shifting noise. Although not all time, seems like when it gets a little hot. Sometimes very smooth sometimes very noisy. The bike runs great so I will deal with shifting issue.
