    Faulty starter switch?

Lately the 250 has had trouble starting. I'm not talking about it cranking for a while or flooding out or anything like that. I mean nothing happens at all. I mean, kickstand up, in neutral, killswitch off, clutch in, and I hit the button and nothing happens. I thought maybe my clutch needed adjustment and it wasn't reading that it was in. However, I have since noticed that it will do it at different points where the clutch is disengaged. I think it must be the actual switch. Is this a common problem? Anybody know a way to test if it's the switch? Also, how hard it would be to replace it if needed? Thanks in advance!!
    -Chris

I'd guess that it's a loose battery connection or a solenoid in the starter. Ya never know, though.

Thanks, I'll check the connections on the battery today.

It could be a sticky clutch safety switch.

hmmm....You could test the switch, I can tell you how I would do it on my bike, but that may or may no help with yours. My clutch switch is a copper button that slides along two copper rails in a circuit board. When the clutch handle is out, the button in not making contact with the rails, so the signal does not go through. When I pull the clutch, the button slides onto the rails, thereby restoring continuity. I would check that switch by taking it apart, and have a helper hold a penny across the rails. Make sure the bike is in neutral, and thumb the starter. If it works...you know the button is out of adjustment or has a dead spot in it.. If it doesn't work, since we know the two rails are touching, the switch, or the wires going to and from the switch, must have too much resistance (open circuit). Hope this helps...
