Just bought new Cycle Jack, Good Deal at Sears

After my experience with over adjusting the rear brake and heating up the drum, I was advised and ultimately decided to purchase a cycle jack. This will let me get the rear wheel off the ground when I need to., and there are also other uses for this jack, especially at this price.

The Sears Craftsman Jack has gotten good reviews, and there is a Sears Hardware store a couple of miles from my house. I called them to see if they had them in stock, they did, and I went over last night and bought one.

They are on sale right now for $69, so with sales tax, I walked out with the new jack for $75.

I did the same thing about a week ago. Bought it on line and picked it up at merchandise pick-up at Sears. Only took 2 minutes at the store. Its a heavy beast, so if you can't lift a box that's nearly 100 lbs, make sure to get help. Once you get it were you hopefully can keep it (corner of the garage) and work on your bike then it just rolls around like a champ.

I bought the same jack over a year ago and it worked out well for my '97 Honda Shadow VT600. I have yet to use it on my M50 but I will be using it soon on my Fiance's S50. I need to do an oil change on her bike.

It is a heavy beast though!

Yes, it is a beast. But I got it home with no problem. I have not taken out of the box yet, and i am wondering:

Have either of you used the tie-downs yet, and if so, how stable is the bike when tied down to the jack?

I've always used the tiedowns on my old bike. I had to rebuild the front forks on my old Honda and it sat on the jack with the tie-downs for about a week or so with no problems at all.

Put the tie straps on loosely and jack up the bike at the position you need it. Then tighten the straps down snugly.

It may seem like too many extra steps, but the sense of security you gain knowing your bike will not fall over is priceless!

I have only jacked my bike up a little bit to test it out so far. It works well and is surprisingly stable without tie downs. However, I wouldn't let it sit or do any serious wrenching on it without those tie downs. Seems easy enough.

I got one of the Goodwrench ones for my birthday in the middle of March. When I first tried to use it in April, the valve stem in the bottle jack came out and went rolling across the floor. I tried to take the jack back to Wal-Mart, but they didn't have any in stock and since I had tossed the box, they said they couldn't look it up to tell me how much to refund me and I didn't have the receipt. So I called the number in the manual. They said they would send me the part in a few days. In June I called again and was told the part was on backorder. I called in July and was told they were having problems getting parts from China and it would be "any day now." It is the middle of July, and I still don't see any part. So this is an item I would avoid. It's the blue one.

Just ask Sears to match the price when you return it. Might save you some hassle.

Checked with PepBoys yesterday and they do not carry a Cycle Jack in this area, so the Craftsman is the best deal that I can find in this area.

Thanks for the heads up anyway.

I originally looked at the pepboys one and felt unsure about it. It was cheaper but I was afraid something might break and compromise my safety or my bike.

So I spent the extra few bucks to get the craftsman one. In my opinion, I think it is a better jack.

That is just my two cents!
