    1982 Suzuki GS 1100 GK

Am a newbie to riding as weaal as this site. I recently purchased a 1982 Suzuki GS 1100 GK and while searching for parts as well as Information I'm seeing there is a GK2 as well as a GKZ. I didn't get any paperwork except a bill of sale. How can I tell which model it is that I have ?

Engine number should have the letters denoting which model it is....allthough there may have been little change there. Also the frame id should give similar info. If you can identify what changes there have been between the models then it will help, such as carb sizes/models etc. You may find a specific site helpfull too.

    good luck

If all else fails, take it to a dealer or respected independent shop.
Armed with the VINs they should be able to tell you.

That's a lot of bike for a beginner.
If you get it running good BE CAREFUL.

Ty for the words of caution. Greatly appreciated. Am welcoming all input. I just went out and looked on the engine for the numbers. On the right hand side of the bike I found the following.... (Not sure if it's CL or a backwards D) 701-109542 as well as 3000 ML. Any idea what this means ? On the right hand side is stamped oil type/weight. Yeah...I have to admit I AM totally stupid with this stuff. I'm at least honest about it. Lol

    So.....this is an honest question:
Given the above, what leads you to believe you will be able to maintain a 36 year old bike ??

If it is running good at the moment, you have a fighting chance of getting some use out of it.....but it it is NOT running now, that's a whole different story.
Many/most shops won't touch a bike that old.

the 3000ML denotes the amount of oil the engine requires. Not sure what the number is....the engine number on Jap bikes used to be on the top LH crancase....near the cylinder base. You should also have a plate fixed to the RH side of the steering stem denoting the frame number....often the bike model is also included.
