    Speedometer sticks

My wife's 1300 V star speedometer sticks at random times and speeds. It's also 5 MPH high. Yamaha says this is a new issue to them. Anyone having this problem...?

sticking is more than likely gunk in the speedo. you should be able to pop the needle off and clean it and the post.
the 5 miles high is common on almost all bikes ( reads 5-10% higher than actual speed). you can get a speedohealer to fix it or just compensate in your head or ignore the speedo and keep up w/ traffic.

    Same Speedo issues

I am seeing the same issue with my 2009 v-star 1300. I had to have the original meter replaced because the needle stopped working all together and the second one is now sticking when the weather gets hot. 90 degrees or higher. But when the temperature drops back down below 85 or so, the needle moves freely like it should. The new meter is also 5 mph fast and I have learned to compensate in my mind. There are products available to correct the speedo, but for the price of $100 or so, I have opted to use my head for now. :o)

Good deal cause anyone who spends a bunch of cash to correct 5mph when they just about all come from the factory that way has more money than they do sense.

We have a lot of road work going on around here and they have the radar signs set up so i get to check mine daily. Consistantly show 5mph high. If I want to drive 70 I put it on 75. If your meter itself stops I would check with the manufacturers website and see if they have a fix for that.

    Sticking Meter needle

I am interested in knowing if anyone has taken their meter apart to work on the needle as suggested in these posts. It appears that the face plate of the meter that is screwed to the main part has warped in the heat, applying pressure on the needle causing the sticking and inaccurate behavior. Raising the needle a tiny bit may just do the trick. Any direction on how to take it apart will be great! I will also check with the manufacturer on fixes.
