So I purchased a 1980 xs650 a couple months ago. It supposedly ran when parked 10 years ago. Looks complete, motor was free has spark and compression seemed fine. Some of the wiring was hacked up so that’s where I’m starting first. I plan on turning it into a cafe styled bike and want to clean up the wiiring and get rid of the not needed. I purchased new left and right hand controls and a few other things.
My question is…..
How can I wore the bike for the basic functions? I want to use the new stock controls (headlamp hi/low, horn, blinkers, on off switch and push start) I will keep the battery and keyed ignition.
how can I wire the bike for these fucnctions and make it clean? Wiring is not my strong subject. I found diagrams online but weren’t bike specific.
Any help would be appreciated.

Alas, forums like this often aren't a good place to get help in the detail that you are going to need it.
Unless maybe you can contact someone who lives nearby and is willing to help.
Wiring diagrams that are NOT bike specific are probably what you need but some interpretation will be needed.

I wish you luck.

Yep have been there done that and suffered immensely. Just rip the old stuff out and start again, or get a clean loom and use that, anything in between no one will touch. A good small inquisitive auto electrician is the go and try to avoid any of the old grumpy ones, aim for youth. You will need a wiring diagram and print it at A1 so it is nice and legible, Once he/she works it out you can assess what is not necessary.

WHS... There is a mechanic who does you tubes called Mustie1 who lives in New Hampshire who may help but I couldn't guarantee it. An Alternative would be a café bike specialist such as Deus Ex who may help....or not.

good luck
