I do not seem to be getting a normal output from the alternator it charges the battery but when riding at night with headlamps on it flattens the battery any fault finding tips would be most useful Thanks Alan

start the bike, take a voltage reading at the battery when the engine is reving at 4000rpm, should be 13.8-14.3 volts

Thanks for the help, I found I was not getting AC on the three wires from the alternator so I replaced that but still no joy so I am about to replace the regulator/rectifier as I suspect a blown diode but I found a very good site for help on this at http://www.electrexusa.com/Images/fault_finding.pdf
