I have a question ? I have a 1983 Suzuki GS550L with the 2 2plunger carbs.I took the carbs apart to check if they where dirty because the bike has been sitting for 2 years.When i pulled the air filter is smelled like gas so i put it to the side till i find one.Well the problem is when i start the bike then shut it off gas fills up in the airbox. What could be causing this to do that ? Also is there anywhere i can get get parts for this bike or technical info on it as it seems kind of rare...Please let me know...Thanks

Clymer sells a manual for your bike (http://www.repairmanual.com/catalog/M373). Sounds like a dirty or sticky float valve.

How old is your filter? Sounds like the engine is creating a negative pressure in the airbox and drawing some fuel back into it. ... which seems rather odd.

float valve should shut of fuel properly, and your overflow should handle any excess that might want to come back into your airbox. Make sure your overflow tube is clear. If you have gas coming out of it after you ride, then definitely check your float valve.

I'm just curious if you're even getting proper airflow through your filter and box.

The air filter is fine...This thing leaks gas with the petcock on pri and then leaks when vave is in on position while running...The gas comes from the 2 holes on the rear of each carb

Sounds like the same problem I am having with my 85 GS550L carbs. Check out my post "85 GS550L carbs flooding". The two holes you are referring to are the two air bleed holes for the main jets. If we can find answer as to why we'll be able to fix both bikes!

The problem sounds like you have a bad fuel petcock and bad needle valve in the carburetors. I would recommend a complete rebuild of the carburetors and also the fuel petcock. Also I would check the floats to make sure they are not leaking and allowing fuel into them.

I can check and see if I can get the kits to do this if you want.
