Hello,

I bought a 1995 GS500E as-is from a dealer. It had only 1600 miles, but apparently it had been sitting with gas in it for a long time, and the dealer had cleaned the carberators.

Now I notice that the bike stalls when it is brought to a quick stop (pull in the clutch at 6000rpm or so, close the throttle, and brake to a halt and it always stalls). If I come to a gradual stop, the bike will sometimes stall - I am planning to try to increase the idle to see if that is the problem here. Manual says idle should be near 1200, which it is now. I took it back to the dealer and they showed me how to adjust the idle, but would not offer much more advice than that for free.

Does anyone know what would cause the bike to stall more when it is decelerated more rapidly? What am I dealing with? I could probably live with it if the bike did not stall much under not-so-extreme operation.

Thanks in advance for any help that you can give!

Thats a good question. It would be a guess but I would check the adjustment of the floats. I could be totally off on this but is sound as if it is running out of gas, maybe as if there is not enough fuel in the bowl. The only other suggestion is the fuel mixture screws. Really I guess all aspects of the carbs should be checked. May still be some dirt if they were not cleaned properly.
