Discussion Starter #1
Hey so I just bought a 1998 Suzuki Katana 600 and I drove it 3 hrs home yesterday and about a hour today. Everything is was fine but I parked it and when I got back on minutes later I get nothing when I try to start it not a sound but it will bump start and run fine. It’s my first bike so I’m not Super knowledgeable but I know it could be the starter is there anything else that I should look for? I’m trying to learn myself so I can avoid mechanic fees in the future and have some know how.

Don't go buying a starter just yet.

First you need to get a multi-meter to test voltages.
Harbor Freight has one for $7. WalMart about $15 I think.

Could have a loose battery cable or a battery going bad.
IF....you turn the ignition ON but don't try to start it, will the stop, tail and headlights work ?

Given that this is a new-to-you bike, you might be missing something critical in the starting procedure......like transmission in N or clutch pulled IN. Or one of those sensors might be bad or have a loose connection.
