Ok, Now I just got my first dirt bike about 2 months ago which is a used 1999 rm250 and is sweet! I got some quick questions i'd like to get answered.

1. If you get it to idle and pull the clutch then shift to first. Is it normal to just die at idle?

2. What makes the 99 rm250 so diffrent from all the other models?

3. What can i do to upgrade the whole overall power band?

4. And my dad wants a bike and he wish i got a low maintenance over a high maintenance 250 2-stroke. So next year should i give my 250 to my dad and get a expensive less maintenance 450 4-stroke or stay with a more maintenance 2-stroke and just keep changing the piston every 6-12 months? I just want something that will do trails, ride motocross, and do well at the dunes without working on it more than riding.

Hope you guys can help. :bluethum:

Hey man thats rwally cool...i got the same exact bike..they are fast as hell arent they?
ill try to answer your questions

1. Yes its normal..evrytime i put mine in 1st gear i have to keep it revved so it dont die...nothing to worry about.

2. im not really sure on this...i assume its pretty much the same as the other late models.

3.. This is what you need to get, a silencer, a fatty pipe, a different reed valve, and a high flow airfilter for more power..and i you want more low end power get a bigger rear sprocket...also you can go to www.phatheadracing.com they got some cool heads for are bikes that will also increase power...

4. You dont have to change the piston every 6-12 months, unless you ride it everyday in that time period.. if you change oil regularly and run a safe oil to gas mixture it should be good for a while..my piston lasted until this year, then it shattered..so i would say about every 1.5 to 2 years on the piston...also u need to run about a 32-35:1 mixture if you didnt know...and to answer your question, no i wouldnt give it to your dad and get a four stroke, hell if anything you could sell it and get a newer RM..

also if you dont mind me askin, ho much did the bike cost ya? and how many hours were on it? i hope i helped you out...thanks! :D

I have a 2001 and my bike does the same thing, you must keep it revved up when you put it into gear or it will stall. I think they are all the same. Nothing to worry about, and the adviced you received is correct, change your gear oil regularly and clean your air filter after after every ride and your piston will last.

Thanks for the advise and all the answers. The bike is reall sweet and fast like a bat out a hell. And on the pipes and silencers, is fmf better on a suzuki than pro curcuit? And on the gear oil, whats the best oil to use?

Oh and 99rm250, I got the bike for 2,000 w\ a paddle and full riding gear. I have no idea on how many hours. all i know is that i ride it when ever i can. Meaning almost everyday for about 2 months.

Thank guys 8)

And what about the spark plugs. I tried the $10.00 plug it said to use then tried a B7ES plug wich is only 2 bucks, and the $2 plug ran better but should i use the recomended one tho? :?

I you have a 98 or a 99 rm250, i would like to know what kind of plug you use. cause they run the same plug. hope you guys can help. :bluethum:

I also have used the $10 and $ 4. dollar plug, I think it is all about how you mix your fuel and oil and which gas you use. That is what causes the plug to foul.

So whats the best 2-stroke oil and the best gas to oil ratio. Like what do you guys use?
