Finally got 550 miles on the tach of my '04 GSX-R600. 1st Service complete!

Oil Change, filter, etc. - $120
Sliders ------------------- $ 72
Labor ---------------------$ 68
-----------------------------------------
Grand Total - $260

Keeping it under 6,500rpms prior to my 1st service allowed me a max of 75mph on the freeway. Now I can go up to 11,000rpms. Don't exactly know how fast that would be but I guess-ta-mate 120-125mph , which is definately enough for me to ride comfortably on the freeway so that I don't have to fear riding alongside or around big trucks. I only need about 80-90mph to go up to (at most).

After picking up my bike & getting on the freeway home I couldn't help but try out the new rpm range. I was doing 100mph before I knew it & had plenty of rpms left. I was on a 3 mile straight-a-way w/very, very little traffic & could have easily experienced what my Gixxer was made for but I used every ounce of my SELF-DISCIPLINE to calm myself (I mean every "OUNCE" that I ever possessed)

I could feel myself experiencing the 2nd stage of riding called "FALSE CONFIDENCE!" (stage quoted from a member of this forum - don't remember where it is documented but I go by this religously & definitely want to give this person credit).
1st Stage - New Bike Nervousness
2nd Stage - False Confidence
3rd Stage - Wake-Up Call
4th Stage - Maturity

Anyhow, I took my Gixxer home, parked it, & I'm still trying to calm down & let reality set in before I ride 'em again. Basically, I'm sorta punishing myself for a day or so because of my giddy-ous-ness (don't believe that's a word but it works).

I know what you mean, I new at this and going through the same, the rush of power you get after 6000rpm is amazing but more than I can handle at this time, reason why I never took the bike in the hwy.

I have a bike right now that will only run correctly from 8-10K until I get the carbs sorted. Soooo . . . in 6th gear I am going about 135 actual.

D'OH!

I don't ride it on the street right now . . .

The member that stated those rules was Rowdy Red, I am happy that you finally got a chance to open her up and its good you realized that your self control that you thought you had kinda vanished due to that open road with little traffic. That stage you said you expierenced which was false confidence please pay attention to it and go back to being that cool calm collective learning rider you were, I would hate for you to expierence Stage 3 which is the wake up call, because in that stage it could end in death  and even though i dont know you, you seem like a good person and i wouldnt want anything bad to happen to you because of a few seconds of excitement. Remember theres a reason rowdy and other members on this board are still riding some have had close calls and some havnt yet in still the key is they learned from there mistakes and changed i hope that you have learned and corrected this :D other then that enjoy that ride bro and have fun
