I have a question about the first tune-up for your motorcycle...i just bought the gs500 and the suzuki place told me the first tune-up had to be done at the dealership...but after that you can go anywhere else for future tune-ups...is this true?...is their something special that they do on 1st tune-ups?...all i know is it is going to cost a lot of money haveing it done there...TMH

You can do it. We can help. Read the manual and tell us what it calls for. There are many qualified people in this and other forums willing to guide you.

to dealer shop rates.

Edit: I just remembered that they may require the first service be done at a dealership for warranty purposes. Your manual should tell you.

Maintenance Schedule for the Suzuki GS500F
This is after the first 500 miles

Tighten:
Cylinder head nuts
Exhaust pipe nuts
Chassis nuts and bolts

Inspect:
Tappet clearances
Fuel line
Vapor hose (Cali. model)
Idle speed
Clutch
Drive chain (Also clean and lube)
Brake Hose
Brake Fluid
Brakes
Tires
Steering
Front Fork
Rear suspension

Change or Replace:
Engine oil
Oil filter

The valve (tappet) adjustment is the only one that might be a challenge. Ask around and you'll find plenty of help.
