#1 - This has never happened so I never paid attention to the possibility, I put my wallet/card holder in my "trunk" space of my Gixxer... And then spent most of the rest of the predawn hours in my car, retracing my path on my bike looking for it. Only to finally find it the next morning literally balancing on the swing arm. Ok, ok.. I know that was totally dumb on my part, but I really never thought about those spaces in the tail that literally open out to thin air. Lesson learned.

#2 - If it calls for rain, I don't care HOW clear it looks, don't ride unless you want to ride in the rain. I spent over an hour sitting under a gas station, only to finally suck it up and ride in the rain. NOT fun!

I hear ya bud, I almost did the same, until I looked in the trunk and saw the pavement.

This actually brings up a good point.

Where DO you store your registration and proof of insurance on a sport bike?

The only place I could come up with was inside the tool kit that came with the bike that fits under the rear seat.

Anyone have a better spot on a sport bike? Specifically a '03 GSX-R 1000? 8)

Don't know if the laws down south require you keep registration in the vehicle but I always have mine in my wallet.

This way should someone take off with the vehicle he doesn't have the papers also.

Here in Georgia, you don't need to carry your papers: they can call in your plate and the computer will tell them if your tag is current and if you have insurance.

I have a cruiser also, but don't like saddlebags. I bought a little gadget called a Grifter box. It fits behing your tag, and is an inch thick, giving you a waterproof, locking place to put a wallet, papers, etc. it comes in black or chrome.

I cut a bit of foam packing from a computer box to fit inside it, and cut out places to hold a spare turn signal bulb, headlight, brake light bulb, air pressure guage, spare house and bike keys, quarters for the air machine, a spare $10 for gas, and some fuses. I feel a lot better about road trips carrying that stuff.

Dr. Bob,
Sweet tip about that computer foam. I am gonna put that to good use. I keep my reg and insurance in a zip lock that is held down by the rubber strap that holds the tool kit. It's pretty tight. I would keep it in my wallet, however sometimes (albeit rarely) I run out down the street and don't pack for a trip. I like to know that If I get my wallet stolen, lost, or left, I still have two pieces of identification naming the bike bike to me (can verify I.D. by S.S. #)

My 2 cents.

I keep my registration and insurance papers in a small 1x3x4 plastic tackle box from a sporting goods store. The extra space holds apsirin , meds, etc. That sits in the bottom of the tail. I also have 3 or 4 stuff bags from the same store. They keep additional tools, cleaners etc. organized. They fill the rest of the space and it keeps everything from shifting around.

I probably carry more than I need, but since I do a lot of long distance solo riding in remote areas, you never know what might come in handy.

Here is a partial list for some ideas.

Protect All (face shield and plastics cleaner)
Trip maps and motel guide
Leatherman (or other multi-tool)
Plenty of extra ear plugs
Couple of $$ in change (for emergency)
Chain lube
Air gauge
Mini-Maglite and extra batteries
First aid kit & Meds
Toilet Paper
Duct Tape
Registration and proof of insurance
Owners Manual
Spare socks/ cold wet feet suck!
Tie Wraps
J B Weld (fast set)
Bungee Cords (two adjustable)
Canyon Dancer Bar tie down adapter (in case of tow)
Factory tool kit
Tire repair kit
Hand rags and wipes

I got stuck riding in a Thunderstorm on Tuesday. The rain wasn't bad behind the Concours' windshield (full fairings are sometimes a good thing!), but the crosswind was so bad I could hardly stay in my own lane. I ended up pulling over at a gas station while the storm blew through. I can handle being wet, but I'm not so blase about being a hood ornament.

Hi try using a belt bag for yer smaller stuff and I sometimes throw on a small back pack to carry that wet weather gear. It's strange if you have the extra gear you seem to be less likely to need it. Definately flag the wind and rain together

You keep all that in your little 1x3x4 box???? Where do you put the box on your bike, by the way?
