PLEASE HELP!!!! MY 2000 GSXR750 IN 2ND GEAR FEELS LIKE IT IS SLIPPING OR MAY BE COMING OUT OF GEAR. IT DOES IT ABOUT 5000RPM WHEN I GET ON IT. IT REALLY CLUNKS BAD, THATS WHY I THINK IT MAY BE COMING OUT OF GEAR. IF IT IS COMING OUT OF GEAR, IT DOES IT FOR JUST A SECOND. HAD MANY PEOPLE TELL ME WHAT THE PROBLEM IS BUT EVERYONE HAD A DIFFERENT ANSWER, NO ONE HAS THE PROBLEM. I HAVE HERD THE SHIFTING FORKS, CLUTH, WHICH I CHANGE STILL DOES IT. SOMEONE SAID THERE IS A BOLT IN THERE THAT CAN LOOSEN UP AND FALL OUT, MAYBE ROUNDED THE TEETH ON SECOND GEAR. PLEASE HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

get it fixed now befor it costs you 5 times as much, a friend of mine that rode it pretty hard had the same problem and then the trans totally went for shyte on the track, damn near caused him to crash. So long turned to short, get it fixed before it takes out the entire trans, or you.

thank you guys for the reply on this promblem. i have been busting my a$$ trying to rip this thing apart to see what the problem is. the verdict is a couple of things i see. my 2nd gear inside the transmission has a few nicks around the dog ears, the shifting fork for second gear looks like it has alot of wear and may be bent. im going to take the transmission to someone with more brain cells to make sure that this is the problem. i will be back with some answers, i hope. for gixxer600m i do major amount of wheelies, and of course do not use clutch to change gears. im really bad to do 1st gear stand up burnouts for as far as i can go or the tire last. i have been to a couple of track days, one in jennings fl., vir, road atlanta. im taking my class at vir may 3rd, (corner speed). i have a really crappy video on sportbikerider.com. if you are really bored let me know and i will explain on how to get to it. i also have a 2003 rc51, so if anyone hears of any problems with them please let me know. im al ittle rough on it also
see ya!!!!!

what kind of riding do you do? i.e. lots of wheelies, road racing, stunting, dragging? this may help determine what is happening!
i have the same problem with my 1999 gsxr 750. When i get on it in second gear its like it drops down in to a passing gear is the best way i can esplain it. It will do it like pop out of gear just foir a second and then go back in but the more throtle i give it the more it will do it . IT doesn't seem to do it in any other gear

needs tranny fix--you need to take bottom end apart and REPLACE 2 GEARS (2nd & 5TH) usually & the shift fork (for same) also the shift drum. you've missed 2nd gear shift tooooo many times. I'VE fixed at least 50 or more of this dilemma in the last 40 years. THE top end can stay together-----find an HONEST REPAIR SHOP----GET A QUOTE---if honest they should tell you as I have----------GOOD LUCK

well I HAVE replaced bad gear sets, shift drums, forks on Yamaha's, Suzuki's Kawasaki's & Honda's SINCE 1980.
WITHOUT REMOVING THE CYLINDERS & HEADS----the cams need to be removed on some however and of course the clutch basket has to come off.-----THIS ONLY APPLIES TO ENGINES WITH A HORIZONTAL CASE HALVES.

You are correct to some extent that on some engines you can remove the shift drum and external shift linkage without a full engine strip down but to access the gears and shift forks and replace them you have to split the cases. On some race bikes the gearbox is a cassette type....similar to the old British ones of a few years ago which come out complete with shift mechanism.

I actually went and looked online how to do what you are referring to. It would appear once the engine is removed it can be turned upside down and the lower crankcase removed after removing several ancillary parts leaving the entire top end and barrels in place.
