Im sure all of the older riders will agree with me.

Long story short I bought a suzuki, and I couldent fix it so I got a v4 mid eighties honda (vf500f interceptor 1986). 70 hp. This thing scares the HELL out of me. And thats BEFORE I rebuilt the carbs.

Ive been on a bike 6-8 hours in my life tops. After reading here about all the stories and warnings about powerful bikes Im not going to even think about touching a gxr until Im 5 years into riding (yes i plan on switching back over to suzuki).

Anyways all you squids out there who cant ride and want power, just rememeber, grab too hard on that brake and that bike will show you its power.

Hey Ansel,

Out of interest, can you tell me if there is any scarring on the tops of your front forks? The top being the top of the cylinder that the upper fork slides into when the forks are compressed (where the fork-seals are). Every Interceptor that I looked at (because I had contemplated them a while back) had lots of scarring there. This was due to the bolts that hold on the front indicators, underneath the front faring, coming down too far/too hard from either stopping or endos. Just curious what condition yours are in.

Ansel, have you taken the MSF? If not, it would help you.

The Baby Interceptor is still a powerful bike. It may be a 500cc but 70 HP is usually above the power we recommend for newcomers.

Be gentle, be careful.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Sorry for the no reply length of time.

There are avfew scratches there, not much. I doubt endos were done on this bike.

Yeah im still gettign used to the power. im in stage 2, feeling confident of my abilities. I am by no means ever gettign up on one wheel for a long long time.

I've been off riding for 17 years and bought a new gixxer 750. I can be scarey...but it can also ride like a cruiser too. My humble opinion...I think the gixxer is just fine.

Hmmm . . . like this?

Yeah, they used to hot rod the Baby-V. Usually with parts from the VF400s from Japan. In those days, you had to order the stuff from HRC, or try to get it sent from Japan. Aftermarket parts for these were basically non-existent. Yeah, that is me in 1989.

By Baby-V. This brings back some memories!

Being extremely squidly in '88. My friend Ford is on the back. We filled the keg later that day.

FWIW: Those who haven't ridden one of these have no idea of how graceful and forgiving they are. In my opinion, the best beginner's bike EVER. You can really steer the bike in FAST with the 16" front hoop. Stopped on a dime too. Most likely the best handing bike in the 80's next to the GSX-R 750. No, the HPs here are not too much. This bike tops out at about 120 w/stock gearing. I would be dead if I hadn't started on something this small.

IMO, this bike is in NO WAY too much for a beginner. Nothing like the 600s of today. More on par with the EX-500. Deecnt bike w/great handling.

These didn't put out 70 HPs stock. I'd say around 65 on a good day. All the mags quoted 68 or so, but no way was it that high. I almost bought another one last year! :D

This bike with some good tires and a refreshed suspension will DESTROY big bikes, even today's big bikes in the tight stuff. Wads of torque and that 16" wheel will surprise a lot of folks. I put over 10K miles on mine.

GOOD CHOICE MAN!

sweet!

sweet deal mangg. just be careful. i piced up a gsx750F katana for my ist inline 4. its a late 93 and it defnetaly is enough power for my squid-ass. i have so much respect for the bike because if you dont you'll dtop paying attention, and take traffic for granted. always leave space between you and others, but why am i saying this, you took the MSF, thats the best thing you ever did before you got the bike. :)

My 1st bike was a 83 yahama XV500 v twin, this ass hat i was friends with, i let himm drive it, but before he got on the bike i told him if he dumps it he owes me 1000. ( the XV500 is not worth that at all) and soon enough after 5 minutes he dumped it. but he neglected to tell me he was stiffed (drunk). and he does ride motorcycles. hes an asshat. but anyhoo he payed up and thats how i got the gsx750F. now to take the dual exhaust to a single.

gsxr nut, those are some oldschool pics. you hot ass you. haha j/k j/k i love the keg.

No offense newbie . . . but didn't you just post in another thread that you are just now starting to ride in heavy traffic/at night, etc.?

If you had chosen a smaller, less-powerful bike, you'd be nice and comfy, and well on your way to learning how to handle two wheels!

Think about it. Not slamming you, we're all friends here. :) I'm just saying that it appears to me that a less powerful bike would have been a better choice. :)

SHOULDA...COULDA...WOULDA...!

I don't regret my GixxerSixxer for one second bud-dy! Lovin' every minute of it. If anything, having my Sixxer has made me more aware, cautious & hungry for more learning. I think the 500 would have had me too curious for more power after 2mo. but that's just "my opinion."

Personally, I wouldn't be seen on a 500 in my area. Not bashing anyone out there but it just can't happen where I live. I'd come out better on a scooter if that were the case. Yep, we all buddies in here so there's my .02cents.

Katana's ride solo in my area. Only certain bikes are allowed to ride in certain groups in my AO. I can go more in depth but I'll hold here.
